So, Marvel is making a live-action Doctor Strange movie that is scheduled to be released in 2012, and there are rumors going around that either Tim Burton or Guillermo del Toro will be tapped to direct it. What I want to know is who the Escapists think should play the Sorcerer Supreme in this film.

My first choice would be Paul Blackthorne, who played Harry Dresden in the short-lived Sci-Fi Dresden Files series. The show was dropped for an undisclosed reason, but Blackthorne played a thoroughly enjoyable protagonist.

My second choice would be Jim Caviezel, who played Edmund Dantes is the well-received remake of The Count of Monte Cristo, and portrayed both a beaten and broker, revenge driven man (Strange pre-healing) and then a dangerous and aristocratic high-society powerhouse (Strange post-training).

What do you guys think?

I like Del Toro for the directing job. As for Strange proper, well Jim Cavieizal is a good pick. Depp's name has been attached to this for the longest time but personally I like Martin Sheen from Frost/Nixon

I think both of them should do it. That'd be awesome.
well it would be quite the vision but as similiar as their styles are I dont think it would work out to well. Still if Jackson and Speilburg can do TinTin together...

Paul Blackthorne would make a horrible Doctor Strange, he just doesn't have the feel of him and would look way too goofy and saying some of the thing Strange says he would sound dumb

not sure who i would pick

I've never been good at naming actors to play parts but that isn't really what I wanted to say. Really, I don't think that the Dr. Strange comics were ever handled very well so I've very little confidence in the movie.

It's true that the comics never did well, but when put in a team, Doctor Strange excelled. I feel that the reason he never became popular until now is that when he got his own series, mystic heroes weren't popular at all, in fact, they seemed even more silly than mainstream heroes, so the writers who were assigned to them were naturally the younger and less experienced writers, which made the sales suffer even more due to their inability to bring the character to life. In Doctor Strange's new role as physician to the superheroes and the New Avengers go-to mystic, the character has become more developed and interesting than ever, so I have good hopes for the movie as long as they stay away from the more dramatic parts of his origin (Flames of Falteen? Really? As stupid attack names go, that has to be one of the corniest).
