For the most part, picnics are dead. people just dont really do them anymore. I think that one of the main problems is that people dont know how to throw a picnic. anyone got any ideas for what should be done for a picnic that im trying to throw?
so far ive got : sandwiches, banana bread, and rice crispie cocoa squares.
looking for more creative things to to.
activities ideas are also appreciated, if those are still fun past the age of 8.
btw, my age would be 17, pretty much every activity is fun.

Bring one of those huge buckets of plastic army men, and some shovels for digging fortifications.
Also, plastic tanks, planes, and other vehicles only make things more fun.

Last 3 picnics I had were at a beach, a river, & a lake, no ants at either, a mosquito tent at the latter, a grill if they're available.

Talk about shared interests, swim a little, take pictures of the landscape, talk about renting a boat, contemplate water skis, discuss the pricey houses across the water, collect river rock & shells, fish for tadpoles.

We like our picnic to be a little multicultural; burgers & smores if there's a grill, sushi & green tea cakes if not. & not crappy california rolls; the real shit that costs $3 a bite.

Man, I love these toys. If I had wood floors in my upstairs, instead of wall-to-wall carpet, there would be a perpetually going epic struggle for who controls the hallway, my sister's room, and the terrifying no-man's land that is... The Shared Bathroom!

Get some cold pizza down with the food. Sausage rolls too!

As for games, we used to just take a football, lay some jumpers down for goals and have a bit of a kickaround. Good times.

In fairness, I do actually still go on picnics, but we tend to just have some sandwiches, then dip our feet in a river and have some beers. Occasionally turn it into a BBQ.

I picnic'd sooooo much in high school.
If you're going somewhere with a grill and have a competent griller coming cook the meat there. Make sure you get a good marinade/spices when you do it.

Sports equipment (frisbees, kickballs, footballs) are fun. Most kids like ultimate frisbee. do you have musically inclined friends? Have them bring their instruments.
Some party games are fun too, apples to apples, catch phrase etc etc.
These usually worked out well for my group.

Also, make SURE you have everything you need, it's no fun having a bunch of raw chicken and someone forgot the lighter fluid.
