So gamers I'm a bit of a dumbass when it comes to pings and shit but I know the lower the number the better and a red bar on XBL is bad.

So maybe you guys can help me out here. This morning I logged on to play some MW2, it starts searching for games with a ping of 50ms (or less I assume) when it had previously only ever searched for games of 100ms, I thought this was a good thing. It wasn't, every single game I tried had crippling unplayable lag so now I'm not sure I understand it correctly. I'm in Australia if it helps.

I've checked my speeds and they are normal, my ping and jitters are low and I'm not getting and packet loss. So what's the deal here? I know distance is a factor too but I haven't had problems like this since I changed my internet ages ago.

I know you PC players out there wish you still had options for MW2 like you're used too, now I wish I could make some adjustments to the searches too. I don't know maybe a search for good connection option like Halo allows or something more extensive. Thoughts? Opinions?

Well, if you were getting 'lag' at 100ms, it's probably your own computers hardware struggling to maintain a good refresh rate. Generally, anything below 40 frames per second and your aiming starts going to hell. Under 25 frames per second, and the image quality starts getting really choppy. Turn down the graphical settings or build a new PC.

If that isn't the case, though, and your refresh rate is fine, it might be your IP...

Trust me, I know lag. My IP is crap, the network lines around where I live are seriously antiquated, and my ping goes from 150+ to OVER 2000 if any other member of my family even so much as tries to browse the Internet while I'm in game.

I'm playing on the 360. I'm assuming because everything is standard and the xbox is fairly new it's not the problem.

I'm probably going to have to consider a new internets. Again.
