Ok so I was watching TV and i saw a commercial for a Pinnochio re release. Nothing new, Disney milks off its old franchises with a fervor that would shame Nintendo. However, a red flag went up when they started talking about "Stunning HD Graphics" and "Brilliant sound" now really, how can a really old re release have HD graphics, especially an animated one at that.
ok /end rant

It's kind of like how I bought the remastered Fantasia CD and discovered that the songs on their sounded as terrible as they did on the film. Considering it was recorded in 1940 this doesn't surprise me, but it's still a shame to listen to an inferior version of Bachs Toccata and Fugue. They're just trying to make money, you can't really do much more with a HD version.

Well, HD does not just refer to regular live-action, just like in video games, Animation looks better in HD then it does in Regular Defenition. Plus, the revival of old classics into HD is nothing new, I believe they did the all of the Star Wars, which in regards to the first three, by production dates, are rather old.

However, you are right with Disney making thier titles date sensetive, I always find it funny when they hold titles for "Ransom" in their "Vault".

And I can be assured by recent activities that they would not hand or computer re-vector every frame, they're just going to put some colour filters on, resize the film, and crop the letterbox copy and say "It's gloriously remastered!"
Tell me that when you simply make it over again from scratch in the same swings, just higher quality.
It made me sad when in 2006 they said they were never going to do traditional animation again.

Yeah, Disney seems to have been going Lucasarts all over the place for a while now. Well, everywhere except for the Disney channel, which is just bad without treading old ground.

In my travels of the internet (i.e. randomly clicking on shit that catches my eye and selectively remembering things that somehow come in handy later), I came across a place that resolved the pixel equivalent of film formats. I can't find it anymore, and what I find now varies wildly, so I'll stick with [a href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_resolution#Resolution_in_various_media]this[/a] as my answer. Assuming the negatives are any good, considering Disney's Pinocchio is now 69 years old, they should be able to get away with full-on Blu-ray Hi-def goodness without doing too much work to it.
