Not true. Businesses would just have to find a different way of selling their product to us.muckinscavitch said:If everyone pirated games, everyone would be out of business and then there would be no more games.
Neither is pirating. You're paying for bandwidth.Geekosaurus said:I'm just pointing out that watching a film on television isn't free.spinFX said:Not to mention the advertising... End of discussion, perhaps. If you want to wrap up the thread then the general consensus is that piracy is illegal, immoral and wrong and cannot be justified in any way. Not that I can stop you doing it.Terramax said:Neither is pirating. Holy crap sorry Geekosaurus! I meant to say "Nincompoop that argument is terrible".Geekosaurus said:I'm just pointing out that watching a film on television isn't free.spinFX said:Not to mention the advertising... File sharing is not illegal, thus you would give people the wrong impression.Sightless Wisdom said:perhaps it will be replaced by something like file sharing... you know... what it really is.
I'm not stealing from anyone.Geekosaurus said:Apart from all the people you're stealing from.Nincompoop said:I would see them anyway. I still think one should buy movies, but when in my case, as with most, we're not actually damaging anything by pirating.
I never said I am entitled to do anything, I just said in my exact circumstance, I am not hurting ANYONE.
You are required to pay for it. You did not pay for it. No matter how you want to justify your actions it's a form of stealing.Nincompoop said:I'm not stealing from anyone.Geekosaurus said:Apart from all the people you're stealing from.Nincompoop said:I would see them anyway. Listen. If I download it, I see the movie for free. If I don't download it, I see it 'for free' a year later. Do you understand? Nothing is changing because I download the movie. They are not losing any money they would have gained.
Calling piracy stealing is retarded, and only fits the circumstance when you would have legally bought the movie if it weren't for pirating.
A rational minded person about piracy? Wow. Until now I've never admitted on this site that I share every point you just said.ZippyDSMlee said:SNIP
What ever. If that is considered stealing we seriously need to change the criteria for stealing, or use another word for when you actually take something out of someones possession and keep it for yourself.Geekosaurus said:You are required to pay for it. This has always been the criteria for stealing! At the end of the day, you're trying to justify an illegal act.Nincompoop said:What ever. I agree, piracy isn't exactly the same as stealing, but that doesn't make it right. And a lot of people don't buy the game to make a copy of it, they just download from torrent sites. You can't get away from the fact that you've acquired something without paying for it. No matter if it's a physical object or not, it's a type of stealing.AndyFromMonday said:Stealing from a store: Going in the store and depriving the owner of goods.Geekosaurus said:This has always been the criteria for stealing! "Stealing" in terms of piracy: Buying something as to make a copy and distribute it around the internet.
Look at it this way. Is it theft if I use an apple I bought from a store to start my own orchad and distribute the goods to everyone for free?
Terramax said:Except the part where you miss the fact that when watching something on TV you don't only pay your cable bill, but also get to watch advertisements, which in world of commercial televisions are form of payment. With public TV stations you usually pay some additional fee too, and those money are supposed to be used for further production. Also any broadcaster has to buy quite expensive rights for public display of given movie, limited in number of times they can play it.Geekosaurus said:Neither is pirating. End of thread then?
Your broadband bill goes only for providing you access to internet, nothing more and ISP doesn't pay any share of this to game developers.
