Planetside 2 goes live

Planetside 2 has finally gone live and can now be downloaded on steam.

Been with it from beta through to launch and would thoroughly recommended anyone interested in an MMOFPS to download it. Also its free to play so whats the harm?

One word of warning though, it is highly demanding on your rig!

Either way just thought id make a thread about it in case anyone hadn't been able to get into the beta and was interested in playing it, but hadn't realized it had been released.

Right now the servers must be buckling under the stress or something though. I can't log on in the client and the European website is down. But it did just release a few hours ago, so honestly, I'd almost be more worried if the servers WEREN'T having problems.

Downloading it now. Won't likely get to play it till tomorrow night but then hopefully the server problems will not be as bad by then.

If I remember right XP should max out around between 4 and 8gb.

OT: Downloading it now should be done in a couple minutes. Since it's f2p I really don't see a reason not to try it.

Vanu for me. I loved the Beta so going to download on steam asap. I just need to be more careful with my unlocks this time.

64 or 32 bit?

If it's the latter you can only go up to 4gb, and that will actually be counted as less (around 3.5 if you're lucky). Windows 7 is quite good, well worth considering.

Have they introduced any "point" yet?

I really enjoy the game, flying over on your way to a big fight and randomly taking out 3 people on buggies on the way is a gloriously dickheadish satisfying feeling and the scope of the game is brilliant. However, fighting for 2 hours over a few sections of land, only to log back in the morning to find they're gone and it's just an endless back and forth with no real victory gets tedious.

Had my first run today. Love playing in tanks, so I used the Vanguard heavy tank with a friend in the co-seat.

33 kills. It was awesome. Shot down a random Vanu plane that headbutted my shell 500 meters away, probably one of the most insane Tank-airplane kills i'll ever make.
Battlefield can sometimes look intense, but this game made me realize that BF3 is just tiny. 12-18 tanks rolling into a base, planes flying overhead..

It rolls on 50 FPS for me, which I find very acceptable at 2560*1440

Hopefully my laptop can run it without blowing up (it can run borderlands 2 so I hope it's not much more demanding than that.). If so, sweet, I'll have a look see. If it can't run it without making my laptop beg for mercy...oh well. No money lost.

No idea what faction I want to join, though.
Terrans sound like jerks, Rebels sound like anarchy, and the vanu sound like lunatic scientists.

Yesterday Vanu had 77% of the land on the map I was on. So much plasma-based rubbish flying around
...Join the NC instead ! We got the best tank. Srsly. NC.

I mean...Tyrannical government, insane scientists, rebel badasses? The rebels seem to be the most "good guy" faction, and the Terrans seem to be the default "bad" faction.

I loved the TR's music and general looks, but the "Heavy hiting, heavy armored" philosphy of NC made me choose NC. Sadly the music is effin atrocious for NC so I had to turn that off.

I guess many people like the Vanu hover-planes and flying tanks. The story doesn't really matter imo, at first I was like "mwahaha epic authoritarian terran faction" (I was reminded of Starcraft's UED) but the tank just didn't do it for me. And I like my tanks.

However, Vanu weapons arent particularly powerful and they tend to die wonderfully. Also, the relative high amount of Vanu vs everything else meant that the everything else got an XP boost.. already have 43 certification points after just 2-3 hours of gaming ;D

I find that surprising. I figured the "tech" faction would be the least chosen. From what I have seen in most games with the 3 faction system it tends to be a split between the "establishment" and "rag-tag" with a smaller portion of the tech faction. It will be interesting to see what happens as the game progresses. I'm downloading now and planning on joining up with the TR as high speed tends to be my forte.

My mid-range gaming laptop, bought a year ago, cannot break 20 FPS on the lowest, ugliest settings.

Y'know, they didn't HAVE to make the game THAT damn pretty looking.

My mid-range gaming laptop, bought a year ago, cannot break 20 FPS on the lowest, ugliest settings.

Y'know, they didn't HAVE to make the game THAT damn pretty looking.

God I know right? I'm using a PC that's roughly a year old and can run things like The Witcher 2 at mid to full settings and maintain at least a 30FPS. I started up Planetside 2 on mid settings and it looked like I was trying to run Crysis on my old laptop.

On a side note, what acronym should we use? PS2 is the obvious one, but well yeah.

The EU is seriously struggling with connectivity issues. I launch from Steam, it loads up the splash page it calls Launch Pad, and then says "Launch Pad cannot connect, please try again later". I've put all necessary exe's on my firewall exception list and even tried running it with my AV disabled. Apparently the EU has gotten seriously screwed over by all reports.

I know I keep talking to people and saying have you played on PS2 yet? And they just look at me like Im mad and tell me that they sold their playstation 2 ages ago haha.

As for the FPS issues they say they'll keep on working on optimization, if you think it's bad now you should of seen in when alpha came out, the graphic demands were so high barely anyone could play it.
