All hail Inaba, Clover forever.

However, since I still don't have the Last Guardian, I'm gonna have to remain disappointed in Japan :D
But you have Okami. How can you be disappointed in japan then? :D

OT: Eh, makes sense. Yeah, many mainstream franchises are going through a slump, but more obscure devs (Platinum, From) and franchises (SMT) are still going strong. To lump them in together is a bit unfair. :p
That's why I said 'disappointed' instead of something harsher :D

Okami has paid their way through many a mistake.
Then what contribution did Viewtiful Joe, God Hand and Bayonetta make to this standing?
Those are also included :D

Clover needs to come back D:
Why? I mean, Platinum and Grasshopper have basically taken over their duties now. Hell, Platinum itself is made up of a larger number of Clover vets. :p

I just dont see enough to really know

the few Ive played have been...anoying to say the least..as in you'd think theyd rather be making a movie or somthing (coming from somone who generaly likes cutscenes)

and I'm just gonna say it....but most cases of "rediculously skimpy outfit" (to extremely ludacrous levels) have been from japan

The fact that the games Clover made didn't sell well says a LOT about how shitty Western 'taste' is.

People complain about day 1 DLC, dlc that's still on disc, buggy games...

YET...they by glorified expansion packs/DLC that's being sold as full games like Cod/Madden.

Bah!
As someone who buys the yearly NHL title, I'll kindly ask you to not judge something you have no clue about, and are only basing your opinion on hearsay and bullshit.

It's kinda sad.

Eh, tell me something I don't know. Though I think part of the problem nowadays is partially due to the rise of indie gaming. Years back your unique experiences mostly had to come from some Japanese developer with a lead designer that had to have snorted copious amounts of crack before sitting down to plan out a game. Now we have indie developers doing the same thing but with access to the mainstream services of Steam, XBLA and PSN.

Well, Japanese devs still aren't making games on the PC.
Is this an altogether unfair generalization?

nah.

well, i mean, home computers aren't that big in japan

so, there's reasons and everything

but could you imagine how crazy as fuck games would be if they were focused on that market in some alternate universe?

someone ought to mail this to every journalist and dev who's been bashing Japan for the past few years. Seriously, the amount of subtle bigotry going on against Japanese devs is really disturbing.

I USED to do that, with Madden, and then I got past age 12.
Maybe NHL is different - but most EA Sports titles are recycled crap.
They're like 'Dynasty Warriors' for 'bro-gamers'.

Yep because we all know everybody shares the exact same opinion. Oh wait no different people have different and two different people complaining about two different things means absolutely fuck all.
If folks are allowed to buy crappy games, then I'm allowed to mock them for it.

With Capcom's current management regime?
...

Don't even joke about that.
Well stepping out of Clover/Platinum's development history, we also have Monster Hunter, Street Fighter and its many children, Demons/Dark Souls and the Persona series. None of those are unknowns either, which helps.
Uh... Demon's Souls and Persona are published by Atlus... Dark Souls was primarily published by Namco Bandai, which also published Demon's Souls in two regions.

OT: I try not to lump any group of developers together based on the region they live in. If I'm going to be talking about a genre or developer, I'm going to use specific examples of the games or developers in question, not just point at a bunch of games and say "Those were all made in Japan, all Japanese games must suck." That would be silly.

Well, Clover/Platinum have given us some really amazing titles. Okami and Viewtiful Joe were beautiful in their own ways, Vanquish makes every other cover-based third person shooter look boring and lethargic, Bayonetta is a game DMC aspires to be, and God Hand is... well, GOD HAND. :D

ok ok that was only the opening...it is actually a very intertesting example of the subtle differences between japan and american stuff...like the outlandishness and that female charachters super-stupid outfit

Ah, cutscenes, the Achilles's Heel of Japanese games...

(Not gonna argue with stupid female character outfits.)

and the game actually started out pretty cool, a standard "training" session and everything

anyway..as I said cutscenes are fine but the longer they go it seems the less point they have...

compared to say..mass effect the cutecenes (aside from dialouge which kind of meshes into the whole thing anyway) arent really that long and only set up what you need to know...like the opening of ME2 BAM the normandy is under attack, fire, splosions...liara/ashley/kaiden frantically telling the comander we need to get the f*** out of here, then you play (then the second but equally concise cutscene)

I'd bet money if that opening was done from a japanease dev that seaquence would have dragged on for god knows how long...in fact it frightens me to think of how long
