What new games have you played lately that you would recommend to others. And why?
I tried the PC
triune demo on steam recently and I would recommend that you give the demo a play-through.
Switching between the three characters - warrior, rogue and wizard is simple and makes for some interesting platforming and solutions to puzzles.
Not sure I would recommend buying the game though...
Plants vs. Zombies - Tower defense with interesting plants, zombies, strategies on how to defend your lawn
and an interesting sense of humour.
Other than the single player campaign, it has an assortment of mini-games and two puzzles modes vasebreaker and I,Zombie.

I have played some great free games that I recommend you to try. (These aren't new I know...)
Spelunky by Derek Yu http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=4017.0
You're a spelunker, going around stealing treasure while avoiding traps and enemies.
You start with only 4 hearts, a whip, bombs and some rope , once you loose those hearts it's game over.
However, every time you play a level it's different, so it's eases the frustration of dying in the early stages.
KnyttStories by Nifflas http://nifflas.ni2.se/index.php?main=02Knytt_Stories
Platforming game with save points, a wide variety of locations, traps and enemies.
You spend most of the game running around quite fast and jump-scaling walls.

Honestly, it's easier to just watch this video to find out about the game.

Overlord II. It's fun being evil and being able to command your minions to pillage everything. Better than the first in my opinion.
I played the PC demos for Overlord II and Overlord and I found the controls in Overlord II were a little more broken.
I was enjoying myself a bit more with Overlord, so why would I get the one that's more expensive right now?
