Hey,

Eve online has a system where you can pay in-game cash to renew your subscription. Thus you can play, earn in-game money, and use it to play more.

I was wondering if there were any other MMO's who had a similar business model?

Nooot that I know of, it seems sort of... redundant.

On an off-topic question, how on earth do they expect to make money that way?

Not that I know of but i'm sure there is one out there. For the most part the really big mmo's like to put a very big line between digital currency and real currency.

Meh, i never actually play any MMO's that i have to pay for, i dont really like them that much, maybe Final Fantasy XIV or All Points Bulletin will change my oppinions of themm.

And i hate ones that make you pay extra for more stuff, what are they trying to pull?

That is the first time I have heard such a thing. Cool idea, but I don't think it would work out for the company in the long run unless the extra content or the special things cost money.

In eve, they do like this: Player 1 buys a game time code and then sells it (securely, via a game interface and board on the official forums) for in game cash to player 2.

Or, player 1 buys an in game item called a PLEX with real-world money which they can then sell in game on the markets to another player for in-game money.

Either way, the company still makes its money. So basically it's officially sanctioned RMT's via the exchange of gametime.

CCP sell PLEXs which is basically 30 days time code for EVE. It is worth a fair amount in-game but the player can keep their account running by buying these repeatedly.

the way it works is because CCP still get money for giving 30 days out, just not necessarily to the player who bought it.
