This thought came to me after playing the Fallout series. I received Fallout 3 for Christmas of last year and played it to death, modded it back to life, played it to death again, etc. Needless to say, I enjoyed it. I bought the Fallout Collection from Steam and went through Fallout 2 a few times. Recently, I started playing Fallout. I'd have to say, aside from a few snarky references in Fallout 2 (the entire game is self-aware, by the way) I didn't get, Fallout can be played in any order, I believe.
I think this is a side effect of bringing a franchise into the spotlight; people who like the game will follow the series back to its roots, often forgetting about order.
I figured this was an odd way of going about a series (it'd probably be strange if the series is heavily story driven) and was wondering if any of my fellow Escapists had done this, willingly or unwittingly. So, have any of you played a series in reverse chronological order? How'd it go?
tl;dr: Read the last two sentences.
