As the title says could a game be made where instead of playing as the stalwart hero of the land like most games, you play as the little voice telling him where to go and warning him about incoming threats.

"Dude heads up giant spiders ahead"

I like the idea of just looking at 20 different screens like most support characters seem to be capable of doing and trying to get enough information out of it to stop the main character getting owned by space orks you forgot to tell him about.

Hey i'd buy it...

[sub]But if the support character is the main character then would that make the main character the support charac-AHHHHHHH[/sub]

Not to flame or anything but wasn't there a topic identical to this one a few days ago.

OT: I can see it being one giant escort mission, a particular type of mission that I loathe in all games that sport them.

I'd buy it. If the hero ticked me off or if I got bored, I could sabotage the hero by feeding them false info and watching them die horribly. Good times.

And then becoming the villain's cowardly right hand man. Holy crap, that would rule.

Already been done, I can't remember the name but I'm pretty sure it was a survival horror on the PS2 where you were the voice on the radio giving a survivor advice and directions, I wouldn't reccomend hunting it down though.

It used the PS2 headset which meant that half of your commands simply won't be recognised, and that's even if you can find a copy and a headset.

That said I'd like to play a game like this, but please, no actual head sets.
Unless they had a multiplayer mode I guess.

Wouldn't the overall experience just be similar to being sat on the couch round at a friends house as they play a single player campaign game? Except, like, without the social interaction? Sorry fella, but a game based on back-seat-gaming doesn't fill me with anticipation.

"Top left!"
"Got it."
"Reload!"
"I'm on it!"

Sounds like an interesting premise. Could be a surprise hit if executed well. The AI of the hero and ways he/she can interact with the world would have to be numerous. It would just be fun to mess around with the hero's head and see what happens.

Well that'll teach me to use the search bar then...

[sub]I thought i was being partway original :([/sub]

Also if done wrong it would be a terrible 9 hour escort mission, but if it's done right it would have good niche appeal.

I know this topic has already been done. I also know that this game idea has already been done as well.

Google this: Pacman 2: The New Adventures.
You guide pacman around the game indirectly. It's sort of hard to explain in words. Just look for it.
