I wanted to buy Uncharted 2 when it's price lowers, because I'm looking for a new game with some pretty graphics for a PS3, but I haven't played the first one. I've searched around to see what people say about playing the games in order. I only managed to find some guy's review on Amazon:

As a side note, if you have not played Drake's Fortune and you can be bothered, then I would advise you to get stuck into that one first before diving into this, simply because you'll get more out of it. Drake feels like an old friend whose destiny you genuinely care about, the supporting characters are as fully realised as they are in a good film. You may feel upon picking this one up without any background, that you are missing out on something. However, that may not matter at all, and if you just want an awesome ten hours of exhilarating game play, then this is the very fellow for you.

How far do you agree with this guy? Are the graphics in the first one just the same as the second? Cuz the 1st game is dirt cheap. I've looked at screenshots but it's hard to tell cuz the games take place in such different places.

I love the second one but I honestly never played the first. It's on my list, but I still name the second as one of the best shooters ever (if not the best).

But you may want to grab the first, I feel like there are some things I'm missing out of, but they are minor details at most. I understood all the characters and never found myself lost during the story or character interactions.

I would definitely get the first one. At least just rent it.

You won't miss out on major details, but the first one will make the second much more enjoyable.

I would recommend playing the first one. It introduces the characters so you get to know who they are while in the second one, they come in and expect you to know who they are. It's nothing major, except you get more out of the experience.

Definately play the first one. It was the first game I ever got for my PS3 and I loved it all he way through. The review you posted is pretty accurate, because you will still get the story without playing the forst one. But if you're anything like me you will love Drake's Fortune a lot for one reason. Sully plays a more prominent role. Damn I love Sully.

Yeah, get the first one. You'll notice (and appreciate) the changes made in the second one. I for one found the first more enjoyable and challenging.

I sincerely hate people who play/watch/read sequels first, so much so that I came quite close to striking my 'friend' when he told me he had Bioshock 2 reserved without ever even playing the first momentarily. I haven't talked to him since then. If you haven't already figured it out I'm saying you should get the first one, well, first. Which is exactly the opposite of what that fat douchebag I just told you about did. Half the games he owns are sequels to games he's never played.
would you hate me if I bought MGS4 and then got the first three?

OT: Yeah, though not major the game is better knowing more about the characters that reappear.

I agree with that review.. Playing through the first one before buying the second one actually put uncharted 2 up higher on my list of things to buy. I always sigh when I see so many people on my ps3 friend list with Uncharted 2 in their trophy cabinet and no signs of ever looking at the first one...
