Do you mean something like this [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetris_effect]?

It means you've been playing a lot of games. Try doing something that doesn't involve lots of repetitive images.

Yeah...this would be the point where I would be cutting back big time.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "playing video games in your mind", but I do know that when it becomes a mental focus to that extent, it's probably not exactly healthy.

Go find another hobby to focus on for a little while. It will probably be better for your mental state that way.

This is totally normal for any activity you invest alot of thought into. Read a good book lately? Found yourself thinking about the book while youre not reading it?

Same goes for sport study etc.

I got that way back in TF2 beta, shit was weird. Didn't stop me playing 6+ hours a day though. What game is it, I assume it's the same game in your mind all the time?

You should probably take a break, but you could also use it to build creativity. Look up some stuff about meditating, use it to get into a relaxed state, and then use those mental images to conjure up whatever experience you want in your head. I do this before bed every once and a while and its interesting to see and practice building up detail in your head, see how elaborately you can imagine things. Like the architects in Inception you can put together your own world and walk through it. It's cool if you can stay focused

I know what you mean. I bought the Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood soundtrack recently, and I like to listen to it while I run sometimes because the music is so atmospheric. But, the other day, I was running while listening to the song that plays while Ezio is being chased by the guards, and I remember thinking to myself, "Shit! I need to find a hay bale!" I even looked around for one for a split second. I thought it was hilarious, as did my friends when I told them later. I guess that just means that Ubisoft chose their music well for that game.

It really depends on what you mean. We honestly need more information. Like tharwen said, it could be something similar to a tetris effect, or equivalent to other puzzle games. Or you could be talking about something like thinking about strategies in starcraft, and actually playing them out in your head.

Personally my only experience with something like this was when I was walking for more then an hour and my mind started to drift to playing god of war and planning in my brain how to beat certain rooms on god mode. I did this for a long time and just started imagining myself playing the game and seeing how I thought it would turn out.

Advice? Again, it depends on what you mean. But in general, I'd say play a different game, with completely different gameplay to take your mind off of the current one.

Perhaps you were simply tired and your mind was wandering. Unless you actually thought it was real it doesn't sound like much of a problem.

Could be worse you could be dreaming about the games you are playing.
I had it With Fallout 3 filled with characters from an mmo i was playing (cut down on both for a bit after that).

What do you mean "playing" ?

It's so subjective. If you were thinking about playing the game, or visualizing the gameplay - then that's all normal.

Let's do a thought experiment. I'm going to assume you can swim and you know what it's like. Now close your eyes and imagine yourself swimming. Now imagine fallout new vegas playing.

It's perfectly normal.
So is dreaming about games you play alot. That's what the mind does when it's asleep, it goes over stuff and moves it around in your head.

Now if what's happening is that you are seeing this stuff mixed in with the world around you, as in hallucinating, or genuinely thinking that you are in the game world or somewhere where you are not. Then this is not normal, and it's probably an indication of some kind of medical problem (not related to the game directly). In that case I would suggest you book an appointment with your GP.

That's very unlikely however, so don't be alarmed =P
