Playing WoW alone is no fun

Hi, I'm Roxy. I'm new to this site, but I'm hoping somebody on here can help me.

I'm getting back into WoW after nearly 10 years away. I'm having fun exploring my old haunts, and seeing everything that's changed, but my problem is: I have nobody to play with.

I've tried posting in the official forums, but got no responses. I looked for a page on reddit that was dedicated to people trying to find people to play with, but didn't find anything. I don't have any IRL friends that are interested in playing WoW, and so far I've had no luck finding people in game that want to play on a regular basis.

Does anybody here either play WoW, or know of a good way to find other players? Are there any casual guilds that are looking for new members?

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

(PS I also play SWGemu if anybody still plays that : p)

That problem with playing with people while questing to get XP, you have to share XP making leveling up take even longer.

But that's for wanting to get XP off of monsters, Quests and Dungeons gives you set amount of XP for your character.

But I had fun times raidings and dungeoning with voice chat on Discord.....and I had frustrating "fuck everyone" moments aswell.

The WoW player base has become extremely atomised in recent years to the degree that there is almost no community to speak of outside of guilds and RL friends. It's very tough to find people to play with except through trial and error and just getting lucky by meeting the right people. As lame as it might sound, it might be just a case of joining a few guilds until you find one that you click with.

One thing I can tell you is that hardly anyone gives a damn about anything below level 110; as far as most people are concerned, 1-109 is just a grind you have to get through to get to the real game at 110. Consequently, people aren't very interested in forming groups or getting to know people in low level content, everyone just wants to get in and get out as fast as possible. Part of the reason for this is that levelling is pretty fast these days (1-110 should be doable in a few days solid play) and that lots of people simply buy a character boost so they start at level 100.

Regarding guilds, the health of the guilds will depend entirely on what server you are playing on. If you are playing on one of the big servers for your region, there should be many guilds to consider. If you are on a low population realm, your options will be limited. If you can, pick a busy realm to play on as it will have more activity and a better economy. You should also consider if you want a PvP or PvE realm, and ensure that your faction is not in the minority if playing on a PvP realm, as being in the minority is a recipe for frustration when trying to do world content (of which there is a lot in Legion). The website wow.realmpop.com shows reasonably accurate player data for most realms. You should also look at servers by data centre, and pick one from the server cluster closest to where you live, as this will give you the best ping.

My best piece of advice is using the LFG tool, (hotkey "I") and put yourself in random queues for dungeons. You'll meet people, and might make friends in the game that way. Plus you'll get to run group content pretty easily and people are usually pretty helpful there, minus a few assholes.

I'd say you're welcome to play with us, but our guild is progression raiding guild (albeit semi-casual), so we pretty much only play on max level toons and don't do a lot outside of raids and M+ runs.

I think cross realm LFG, teleporting to dungeons, garrisons etc. completely killed the social side of WoW. It feels like a mobile app.
I've played a bit on the unofficial vanilla server and it's a different experiance. People are friendly, they help each other, form groups to do quests, stay in line if there's respawnable quest item, are helpful on chat and so one. New WoW is like a wasteland of burned out players.

Last time I played WoW there was no other way to play than alone really. All other players could have been NPCs and it would have been exactly the same game.

Blizzard have done their darnedest to remove the games community to the best of their ability. Only finding people outside the game works really. Even guilds I join seem insular.

Honestly I miss the days where MMO's didn't focus on end game and the levelling was a strong part of the content.
