Front Mission 3 and 4 (I don't really have a preference although I loved the turn based mech combat and freedom of builds you had - It was neat in 3 how you could hijack enemy vehicles too)
It's nice to see another Front Mission fan. I just finished it again recently.

Omega Boost (a highly underappreciated classic)
Nice! Didn't know anyone else played that!

Tekken 3
Spyro 1-3
Crash Bandicoot 1-3
Rayman
Ape-escape ( I may only have played the demo, but I've played the second, and it's epic (and the demo for the first, too))
Croc
Gran Turismo

It may be nostagia goggles which are blurring my sight, but these were epic in my childhood.

I mostly played PS1 RPGs, and on an emulator - I owned a few games but never an actual console.

My favourites though are Persona 2 Eternal Punishment, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Xenogears.

No one seems to be mentioning the first Spyro. Was it that bad? I didn't think so, especially when you had (IMO, the best incarnation of) a Stewart Copeland soundtrack!

Seriously, look those OSTs up!

But I digress. My list:
Spyro 1, 2, and 3.
Crash 1 (Don't look at me like that either), 2, 3, and Crash Team Racing
Ape Escape (Best use of the Dual Shock of any PS1 game)
Toomba!
Croc: Legend of the Gobbos
Jersey Devil (I think I played the demo that was packaged with my PS1 50 times before I bought this. So good!)
Star Wars Demolition

Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure. It's an RPG. It's a musical. You play as a (relatively poor) girl who has to rescue a prince.

What doesn't it have?

Crash Bash? Crash Bash? That game has made me hate party games to this day. So many bad memories. :'[
The AI was crap and the game had some obvious problems but it was still fun to play with friends.

Plus it's actually the only party game I've ever played anyway.

Hey, let's play "RPG Classic Roulette"!

Pick a PS1 game randomly from a stack.

Is it an RPG?
Was it developed in Japan?
By Square, Namco, Enix, Atlus, or any of the other major Japanese developers of the time?
If you meet all of these requirements, you have a 95% chance you're playing a stone-cold Playstation 1 classic.
