Just throwing this out there: Deadpool released recently onto the PS4 marketplace as a full priced game at £45. All these remasters and ports are being sold at whatever price they think they can get away with, it is annoying as there have been a few i have quite looked foward to. But upon their release, i take a look at the jacked price, let out a heavy sigh and give up on the idea. They are milking this lack of backwards compatibility for all it's worth. Yes, they may have designed the PS3 stupidly (or cleverly, if one wants to be a cynical cyrill), but don't think they aren't enjoying the added potenial revenue and lowered effort to fall back on when fresh releases are barren or selling badly.

Just woke up. But this is great news to read. My PS2 library isn't large but it will be welcomed to be able to play Guilty Gear on a widescreen TV, instead of a 4:3 CRT TV.
You play Guilty Gear, I'ma have me some Timesplitters fun! ^_^

OT: I have always been a proponent for backwards compatibility and now Sony might actually come through with PS4 to PS2? If this becomes a thing in the future, I can only hope that it is true backwards compatibility.

And my PS2 library is......gone. I let a relative borrow half of them when I had my backwards-compatible PS3, were never returned, then decided fuck it and dropped the rest in the garbage. So too little, too late.

It is likely that it will be "meh". Unoptimized, buggy or unable to run most of the games perfectly.
No reason to put effort to something that generates no profit = thus s**t.

I'd put x5 hopes for the fan made emulators on PC than this one.

I highly doubt that the ps4 is really powerful enough for ps2 emulation to any sort of playable/enjoyable level. I seem to remember that the only reason there was some backwards compatibility on some ps3 models because they used some of the hardware from the ps2.

All I can say is good luck, i'll believe it when I see it.

About bloody time. I just assumed this would be added at some point. We shouldn't even have to ask.

I hate to say it, but good job Microsoft.

You...do realize we're talking about the Playstation ...right?

Or did I chance to wake up in a different dimension than the one I was in roughly an hour ago?

I really, really, REALLY want my PS4 to play my PS2 discs. I still have one of the slimmer models of the PS2, but I haven't used it in a while (due to, you know, my other newer systems and games), so I'm not sure of its state to play games or anything. But either way, this is good news. Now, I just hope I can save my PS2 games' progress on the PS4 HDD.

Sony wouldn't bother doing this if Microsoft hadn't done it first. I love Sony to death, but Microsoft is the one that made this happen, and Microsoft deserves the Kudos. So, for a limited time only, good job Microsoft. Treasure this compliment, because there probably won't be another any time soon.

Fair enough point. Although, like other posters have mentioned, I hope this is not along the same lines of M$'s "backwards compatibility". So, in conclusion, I guess I have to take a couple lines from our resident comic artists:

Good job, Microsoft. You're still shit, though.

Not quite as good as PS3 backwards compatibility...
While this is subjective, i consider PS2 compatibility to be better. I have far more PS2 discs than i do PS3 discs and my PS2 collection contains a much greater proportion of cult classics that would never recieve a port to/remake on a current-gen console or PC. Including things like Ace Combat 5 and Zero, God Hand, Okami, Viewtiful Joe and a couple of other games so minor i get elitist over knowledge of thier very existence.

This compared to my PS3 collection where the crown jewels are Dark Souls and an imported japanese retail version of Jojo's Bizzare Adventure: All-Star Battle.

And needless to say, this is pushing me further towards getting a PS4.
Dark Cloud 2! Shadow Hearts! Final Fantasy XII! Fatal Frame! The freedom to finally retire my PS2 to the basement so I don't have to keep dusting off that archaic piece of hardware!

I didnt see a single reference to Persona 4, or even Disgaea ... I would also add Phantom Brave as it also a nice little game.

You guys are not with it :p

Persona 4, unhappily I had to resort to a emulator for that, my PS2 stopped reading disks ages ago but I really wanted to fire up my Persona 4.

Now emulating a PS3 is a whole different kettle of fish, that fancy Cell tech than no one really got behind messed up backwards compatibility (even emulation of the thing is a pain unless I am mistaken).

Guessed they were forced to due to MS though sucks it dont include PS3 games. Emulation is great, it was a major part of the PS2 but they ripped it out of the PS3 and now it seems they are just playing catch up. Its pathetic.

My only worry...is it REAL emulation, meaning I can put my old discs in the system and it plays, or is it the PS3 version of "emulation", in which is only emulates the games you repurchased from their online store (Probably for the third of fourth time).
My PS3 plays PS2 games fine, so hoping the PS4 will receive that update too. You had to get the earlier model of PS3 though.

I hope this means being able to play off an owned disc. Would be nice to play some Romance of the Three Kingdoms X again.
