Dark Cloud
Dark Cloud 2 (also known as Dark Chronicle)
Kingdom Hearts
Kingdom Hearts 2
Sly Cooper

Yeah, that's all I would suggest.

What can I say, I preferred the Gamecube. *shrug*

Also, don't go near Kingdom Hearts: [Re:]Chain of Memories or Re:Coded without playing the other games (1, 2, Birth By Sleep, 358/2 days, and Dream Drop Distance). They could destroy any and all love you have for the games.

See, I preferred the Xbox, but all the good JRPGs went to the PS2, so I collect those on PS2, and when possible, grab anything multi-platform on Xbox, for better graphics, and usually better features. Example, the original PoP and PoP2 were on The Sands of Time on Xbox, but not PS2.

Also, best Power Stone clone ever: Barbarian, on PS2. Get it. Love it.

We had an Xbox, but very few games on it. Morrowind was the only game I ever played on it, and that was for a short while before the game went and pissed me off with its horrible combat (albeit much easier to stand for lengths of time for some reason).

Gamecube was my main mode of gaming. I could rattle off a list of my favorite gamecube games with relative ease and have it be quite long. :D

Ratchet and Clank series
Jak and Daxter series
God of War Series
Metal Gear Solid series (Metal Gear Solid 3
Persona series
ICO
Shadow of the Colossus
Zone of Enders series
Okami
Prince of Persia series
Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3
Onimusha series
SSX Tricky + SSX3
Second Sight
Viewtiful Joe series
Kingdom Hearts 1+2
Silent Hill 2
War of the Monsters
Mercenaries
Motherfuckin' God Hand
Maximo series
Spider-man 2
Devil May Cry 1 and 3 (skip 2. Trust me)
.Hack// series
Star Wars Republic Commando
Star Wars Battlefront series

Let's see, what else. I know there was one more but I can't put my finger on it...

Oh yeah.

[HEADING=1]TIMESPLITTERS[/HEADING]

Fucking TIMESPLITTERS

All of them. Buy ALL OF THEM. It's my favorite video game series of all time. The best shooters hands down. If you can't find Timesplitters 1, then fine. But buy Timesplitters 2 and Future Perfect NO MATTER WHAT. Make these the FIRST things you buy. You're going to college, get a PS2, a 4-player adapter, 3 more controllers, and Timesplitters 2 and Future Perfect. You'll have the best split-screen experience OF YOUR LIFE. Guaran-fucking-teed my friend.

Well, I think literally every PS2 game I could ever possibly recommend has already been said. Except one.

Finny the Fish & the Seven Waters [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLChRtfO3XI].

I recently got it from Amazon. It's a fairly obscure game. I found out about it in 2004 from a PlayStation Magazine demo disc, only at the time it was a Japanese import. It's kind of offbeat, though very clearly not as much so as Katamari Damacy, which I would argue is the definition of offbeat.

I haven't finished it yet, but from what I understand, it isn't very long. (About 4-5 hours, but up to 7? if you 100% it.) It should be noted that plot doesn't seem to be one of its strong suits.

I dunno if it's up your alley at all, but I like it.

You...seem to have all the help you need.

My only addition is look at Armored Core. If you think you're going to like it, get right in, if not, don't waste your time. You either like it or hate it.

EDIT: Not the first one, be intelligent, get Silent Line or something.

This thread basically covered everything. Just wanted to say I'm in the same boat, buddy. Got my first PS2 about a month ago, and I love it to death. So far I've played Shadow of the Colossus and Persona 4. They are both two of my favorite games now. Currently playing Beyond Good and Evil and love the crap out of it.

So...yeah, it's been a good console so far. Enjoy it!

I loved .hack//infection, such an amazing, immersive game. Also Socom 2 was a favorite of my at the time and you'll still find people playing it online.

While that would be at the top of my list,
San Andreas
&
Burnout Revenge
are another couple of the greatest games ever made...all from 2004; great vintage.

the ps2 can emulate ps1 games can't it? If so try out the wipeout series especially wipeouts 1-3

there are other futuristic racer games on the ps1 and ps2 to try out like the Rollcage series.

If you happen to have a PS3 some of the games listed have been remade for it or on the PSN which could help with the price issues of some of the rarer games I'll Add the Sly Cooper series to the must play list and Suikoden 3 if you like JRPGs.

A lot I could have said is taken, so I'll recommend the following:

-If your a fan of strategy games, try out Romance of The Three Kingdoms IX, and the other games in that series from PS1/PS2.

-PS1 games work on the PS2, so you have those as well. Be advised, though, you'll need a PS1 memory card for those:

Metal Gear Solid 1/Integral
Sim City 2000
Spyro The Dragon
, sequels
Crash Bandicot, sequels
Star Wars: Rebel Assault I/II
Star Wars: Dark Force
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy Tactics

To name a few.

Oh no! People are talking about something that has been talked about before!! how tragic!

Maybe the person wanted to get some personal recommendations rather than reading over an old topic thread, I mean he could have just as easily just Googled a list of popular PS2 games but apparently he would rather have somebody tell him "hey, you should try this!".

btw, I'm pretty sure posts like "Oh this thread again" are considered spam : \

Also, the most recent of these was posted over a year ago! I fail to see the issue.

So... there goes the nostalgia burst. I think it's safe to say that if you get handed a list of 15 PS2 games that are "TEH AWESOMEZ" you're not going to play them all. Sure, Silent Hill 2 is an amazing game, but if you don't like survival horror you probably won't be sold. I'm sure the Persona games are great RPG's, but if I'm not in an RPG mood they're unplayable. What kind of games are you into?

Shadow of the Colossus seems to have damn near universal appeal though, so that's a good place to start. Everyone says Okami is like that too. I also noticed that even though I hated every character in Devil May Cry 3, didn't like any of the cutscenes, and couldn't find anything noteworthy about the design - that game still kicked unrepentant ass.

If he wanted a personal recommendation he should of told us his taste in games or what he was looking for. I have no problem with that. If you ask for a generic list of best of games you're going to get the same answers as the thousands of people who asked that before. Not to mention the PS2 is an old console so it's not like there are new releases to check out, it's the same list of games that are said in every thread. Chances are he is just too lazy to google and find out for himself.
