Playstation 3 High Definition Question

Right basically I own a 1080i TV. Can't do 1080p, I know lame, but oh well.

Anywho... I've noticed that the majority of PS3 games I play all go to 720p even though I have the settings set to 1080i.

My question is... is this because PS3 doesn't support interlacing (well in the case of these particular games) and therefore the only way to get 1920 x 1080 resolution is getting a 1080p TV, or are these games only able to go up to 720p on all HDTVs?

Most games really are only going up to 720p, you can see that on the back of the box.

But you can activate an upscaler somewhere.

nah some games are only developed to go up to a certain resolution, it tells you on the back of the case which maximum resolution the game supports and it will display at the highest going by how your tv is set. my tv will display 1080i and not 1080p too which is what its set too but when i play mgs4 for example it will switch down to 720

The only game ive played recently that didnt go down to 720 was FIFA10, on my tv it says that it stays at 1080p, which is cool because it looks great, but nowhere near as good as the live games though

There's an upscaler now? I thought that was just for ps1/2 games (on the old bc models)...

Hmm, I have one in the Options (something with game), but that might be because I have the PS3 slim, I don't know if the normal one has it too.. The slim also has some more audio codecs over HDMI, so this may also be one of those differences..

Yeah I noticed that with mine too...

Maybe it's a new feature?

But I know most games are only 720p anyway.
