Playstation 3 "murky" picture?

So I have my PS3 running at 1080p and it normally looks crisp, bright and lovely. But for some reason when I switched it on the other day the picture looked very murky, what I mean by this is that it looked noticably darker and slightly blurrier. At first I thought it had dropped into SD but it said it was still showing at 1080p. The resolution still looks fairly good but the dull colours is very noticable especially when watching blu-rays. I'm pretty much a n00b when it comes to settings and stuff so if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated, thanks for reading.

Perhaps check your TV's settings?

More likely your TV than the PS3. If it's says 1080p then that's what it's pushing out. If the picture is bad it's the TV. Check the frequency settings, wherever you can see things like 50hz, 60hz etc.

It does sound like the backlight of your TV might have gone. In the TV settings do you have an option for adjusting the brightness of the backlight (it's separate from the general brightness setting)?

If you change it and the picture does not brighten then you know it's gone.

I don't think it's the TV because I also have an xbox set up and it still looks as clear and bright as it always has.

loose connection? one of the pins/ports are damaged?

Seems to me the most logical problem
