I've been having trouble with my Playstation 3 for the past week. Every time I go to the Internet Connection Settings and enter the information for my network, it tells me the connection time ran out. I've also tried two of my neighbor's connections (which aren't password protected), both times it told me the same thing, "Connection time to the server ran out," even though I can use all three of the total connections on my laptop without problems.

I get an error code: 80710B23

Does anyone know what the cause of the problem might be? If you ask for more information I will edit this post with the new information.

After doing some quick research, I found this.

"80710B23 - PS3 Network is Down or PS3 Network is too busy to respond"

Well, unfortunately, it works fine for me, so, it can't be that the PSN is down (at least since I used it yesterday). Although, I'll admit I don't know much about the inner workings or anything... Maybe they have totally different servers based on location? In that case maybe your area is experiencing difficulties?

I wish I could offer better help, but I'm really not 'in the know' as far as networking issues go :(.

You have my best wishes for luck though, and I'll be sure to post back if I can think of something :)!

Unfortunately I think the ps3 just as some suckage when it comes to it's connection. I used to have tons of problems when it was new until after a few firmware updates and some tinkering with my router settings it works fine for the most part now. My ps3 has a fine connection and I was able to download the God of War 3 demo when it was out back in the summer but my brother wasn't, every time he tried to download it eventually it would have some kind of connection problem and disconnect him. I tried to figure it out but never could. Note also that we have different ps3 versions, I have the original 60gig version, he has the middle of the road one, 80gig that came after the original and didn't have any card readers and only half the usb ports.

If your nat type isn't the issue then I think it might be the consistency with wireless. I spent probably 2 years after i got my ps3 trying to get the system to work with my wireless, your gonna have to look online for the correct nat type 0,1,2,3 about 2 different nat types work well.

It could also be that you have a slow connection or an unstable connection. Move your ps3 closer see if that works.

I find the PS3 has more reliable connection when it's wired.
Most consoles do, my Wii was utter shite when on wireless and I wasn't shelling out extra money for the adapter. After that experience I much preferred spending £10 on an cable for my XBOX than £60 for a wireless adapter.

Your problem may be you PS3's wireless, rather than your router. Due to the fact that it only started in the last week, others can get onto PSN and your neighbour's routers are also sounding

My best suggestion would be to go with a wired connection. If you don't mind having to spend £10 on a cable long enough to reach your router then it's most likely the best way to go. You'll have both a better connection and a more reliable one. Failing that, take it to your nearest PC world/Curry's (or your country's equivalent) and have them take a look at it. The problem definitely sounds internal, though, so best to take it to the 'pros' or get a cable.
