So I got an e-mail from sony telling me I'm in the private beta on the ps3, which is cool and all. But, what is it? What does it want from me? Why was I chosen?(I've owned a ps3 for less than 3 months lol.) And most importantly, what is it.(yes I know I asked that already.)

Also that damn captcha will NOT get me to accept it's advertisement attempts...Grumble grumble. I will NOT say "hello twin-scroll turbo" I don't even know what that means. Is it a power Rangers thing?

Its literal shit.

A renting service for game streaming, except the prices are high as fuck

Also notice that it goes from 4 hours to 7 days, there isnt the option for 1 day or even 3, something that would be used a lot for the weekends.

I am not part of this so I cant confirm if these images are real but honestly I find them hard to doubt.

EDIT: Actually there is an article on The Verge from a week ago that does talk about this price range, so my guess is that the pictures are real

Man that does look like shit.

I thought it would be like a Netflix type thing, where you just pay a monthly sub and can access everything on there.

What it is is a streaming service that allows you to rent digital copies of games for varying lengths of time and then stream them to your hardware. The processing is handled at an external location so all that's really happening is you're seeing video of the game streamed to your hardware and your inputs are being sent to that external hardware location. It's sort of like you're playing a Youtube video.

I wouldn't put much stock in the prices now given that, you know, it's a Beta.

What does it want from you? I'm guessing they just want your feedback on things like rental terms, pricing, game selection, and, most importantly, performance. From what I have heard there aren't many issues on the visual end as long as your connection speed is good but there is definite lag in terms of your inputs. The input lag will likely not be an issue at all in games like RPGs but will probably make games like fighting games and competitive FPS games impossible to play.

Wow, those prices are god damn retarded, Seriously, there is no way anyone in their right mind would pay that much. If they set, lets say, 15usd/month flat price for all available content that would be great value. 30usd/month would raise many eyebrows but given the amount of content you could argue either way.

However this is nothing less than pure ripoff.

I'd heard there was going to be a monthly/yearly fee that gives access to everything...and if those prices stick (it is a beta) than they'll be needing such a thing if they want anyone to buy anything.

So I figured out how to get it all up and running, I can confirm those are indeed the prices.(1/5 star rating on that.)

Tried streaming a game called "Everything with an engine" looked nearly as bad as that one game Jimothy Sterling was complaining about, earth something or other. Played with god awful lag, screen tearing and internet dropped it like it was hot after less than 30 seconds. They'll need to get their shit together a hell of a lot more before this becomes a reasonable thing. And if those are the prices they're going with, they need to get their head out of their asses.(1/5 on overall experience.)

The only good thing I can take away from it is it reminded me of a few games I wanted to look up and see if they were any good. Though I should mention I only tried the "free ones" because fuck paying 2.99 for a 4 hour rental or 4.99 for a 7 day. I'd rather pay 20 bucks for a bargain bin copy of the game in question(Out of the 15-20 games on the beta, none of them are new or even new-ish.) Although it is a private beta(Which usually means "just out of alpha" type deal, I can forgive it being as god awful, but I hope they get their shit together. I didn't experience small lag or occasional hiccup, I was a full second or two behind the game.
