Call me crazy but after plaything the demo for this new PSN game it seems an awful lot like the recently released Valve game, with a lot less polish and a lot less free.

I have only played the steam game a little at a mates place, but this screams of a shitty knockoff costing ~$20 on the aussie store, and having far less in the way of game-play mechanics, functionality and ease of control, and overall charisma.

has anyone played these games? if so, are they the same, or am I being neurotic?

Show me some pictures please, I'm sure it's the same. After all, Valve have decided to do work on the PS3.

Alien Breed is a remake of an older game. 1991.

Valve is the culprit on this one. But that isn't really a bad thing for most people.

Valve has the better game. Except for the fact that it's multiplayer only. Like Left for Dead, Team Fortress..... damn you Valve!

Oh yeah, since you asked for it.... you are crazy (not really, just misinformed)

Ignorance, as a term, might be used right about now, but since people still think that's an insult, I'll just say you are late to join the party.

Don't feel bad, it took me years to realize why people think computers are better than consoles.

But that's another story.

Ninja'd... Sort of. Well, apparently the Alien Breed series goes back more than a decade. So... What he said.

Nod nod fair enough, I didn't know about the older, Amiga game, I was still into FF back then ^_^

it just kinda seems they came out at the same time, and that the sony effort seemed like a rushed answer to a better game, that valve was offering free, IMHO.

Thanks for the info on the original game, Knowledge FTW!

It's actually a lot more complicated.

Alien Breed was Team17 game released 1991 for the Amiga. Alien Swarm was a UT2004 mod released in 2004-ish.

The two games mentioned are both re-makes released a few months after each other. It's just the fact that Alien Swarm's remake was free, thus for many people this is the first time they experienced the genre, hence the confusion. (And the Breed remake was out a few weeks before Swarm's, so you can't really argue that Team17 is guilty of any ripping off.)

Also, I'm fairly certain that Alien Breed was released on Steam before Alien Swarm.

I bought AB on release and dreamt myself back to my days with the Amiga back in the '90s. Fuck Alien Swarm! Cheap knock off. :p
