So I recently stumbled on a weekly feature on IGN.com which details what their employees have been doing weekly with their Playstation Plus on PSN and how it pays off in the long run. I refuse to trust it though as IGN employees are just a bunch of average folk paid to look like video game players and put in reviews whatever bribing companies tell them too. So Escapist Forums community you all seem like an honest bunch maybe you could tell me. Is Playstation Plus worth the $50.00 a years?

Depends. You get Wipeout HD, a $20 value, for free.

So, if you like Wipeout, the price basically goes down to $30.

You get a few sales, and some free $5 games like Syphon Filter.

Really? The best thing to do is look at the PS Plus section of the marketplace, and if you like the things you see, get it.

One of the big draws for me to the PSN was the fact that I already have a subscription to Xbox Live. I don't really see the need to add $50.00 more to a bill when I can still play the games online for free.

What he said... except if you pay for something, it's not free. ;)

Sony, the master marketers. I don't know how they did this, but you aren't the first person I've seen say they get such and such for "Free" when they pay for Plus.

But I would check what you get for your $50, and see if it sounds worth it to you. Remember, I'm pretty sure I read that once you stop paying, all those games they let you download are no longer accessible. It's kind of like leasing the games.

I agree with apsham X-Box Live is the best online service of the three big boys of console gaming. $50.00 is a lot though for someone who's getting nothing out of the service. I have this kind of relationship with my wii, which I refuse to talk to it until it can justify why it was worth $149.99 to me. -_-

Okami, Metroid Prime Trilogy Collection, Red Steel 2, Mario Galaxy 1 + 2, Punchout!, Tastsunoko vs Capcom, Twilight Princess, Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition, House of the Dead: Overkill, Madworld, Brawl, and I could go on...

Now now, it's okay, *pats on shoulder*

I told you, master marketers. You don't have to be ashamed. It's like a dark force kind of thing. Sometimes you can't resist it.

Don't feel too bad I'm starting to also get into some tension with my PS3 *looks at 1st and only stack of PS3 games. Metal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted, Uncharted 2. I can't go on.... thats it.

How is Xbox live better than the playstation service?
It's all free on Playstation, and Playstation plus is just a bonus on top of that for more 'free' stuff, as well as 1 hour trials of games, not demos.

I would get plus as it is, but i'm not allowed to take my PS3 to university so I wouldn't get my moneys worth. I think it'll be even more impressive when they develop their ideas, and plus comes out of the 'new' period. It would be very worth it if they added the rumoured 'cross game' chat :)

But Uncharted sucks...Shitty platforming controls and ho-hum shooting.

The only really good thing is the characters and set pieces...

Also, you need Ratchet & Clank. YOU NEED IT!

I'll take your word for it. I hope they have the PS2 ones packaged up in a bunch like they are doing with most Ps2 classics now a days. (if they don't do this for Team Ico Sony will hear hell.) Also to be completely honest the platforming sections of Uncharted are my favorite parts of both games. They both aren't great but I have played worse games this generation. (Yes I'm looking at you Deadly Premonition. -_-)

Apologies for this response being a few days late. XBL already has cross game chat you can do if you want. PSN is free and that is a plus but it doesn't quite offer the gaming experience that XBL does. XBL downloads things much quicker than PSN, and matchmaking in PSN sometimes take a long time. The arcade has a more impressive library of games IMO than the PSNS does. To me it seems the overall experience I've had with XBL (and I had PSN first) has been a better one than I had with the other two consoles.
