So, I'm curious about this. Will the PV use UMDs like the PSP? If it does, will it support games from the PSP?

PS Vita will not support UMDs. They're going to use a Flash based physical storage device for games.
It is backwards compatible with the PSP and PS1. Basically, anything the PSP plays the PSV can play. (as long as it's not on a UMD)
