Having just completed it I can recommend Danganronpa Trigger Happy Havoc.
Its a great murder mystery Visual Novel with some cool logic/light gun/rhythm game based debate gameplay.
For me I wish I had set the action difficulty to low and the logic difficulty to the highest because while I found myself overwhelmed with the action portions I loved trying to piece the cases together and but the action got in the way, at least for me.
And for the action sequences you literally using facts as ammo have to shoot contradiction in arguments avoiding stray comments and making sure you are countering the right phrases with the right facts. And in some cases play a rhythm game to force a character to listen to an argument.
When I was playing through it I was clocking long sessions because that game can really draw you in because it has a really good story to it.
Now here is my question with this; i watched the anime entirely, and I'm worried if I play the game i'll breeze through it because I know the murderer in every situation...should I still play it?
I admit that I haven't seen the anime, but just knowing who the murderer is will only answer one bit of many many questions that are posed throughout the game. I'm assuming you'd also know the murder weapons and motives for the cases as well from the anime though, so it's really hard to say. I would say that some of the fun will have been ruined for you no matter what, but that the evidence collection and the various minigames will still provide a bit of challenge, but to me the main draw of the game is the story, which you will already know.
My recommendation would be to borrow it from a friend or rent it somehow first to make sure you have fun with it before shelling out $40 on it. I highly recommend the game, but I just don't know how much fun it will be for someone who has seen the anime and knows the story ahead of time.
OT: More love for Dokuro here! There were only a few levels that I found really difficult and it took me a while to figure them out, but the game is quite good. For some crazy retro JRPG fun, check out Dragon Fantasy Books 1 and 2. For another puzzler visual novel style game like Danganronpa, check out Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward. It makes more sense if you've played the original 999 (9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors) on the DS, but the game can stand on its own and has some really good puzzles.
