I think Mass Effect is in the right hands. The two guys who run BioWare and the guy in charge of the actual Mass Effect franchise are eec producers, and the lead writer of the games is involved in the movie's writing. There are very few ways this could go wrong.

where vampires are monsters, end of story...
Alucard is a Dhampire (half Vampire, half human), thank you very much.

Plus, making him evil kind of does exactly what we always hate when games become movies. They change characters from one thing to another.

I wouldn't even want him in the movie, since he wasn't in the first Castlevania at all, and if we're adapting the first Castlevania, well, you get it.

If, by some odd chance, they did place him in, he would probably be better as an ultimately neutral party, because that's what his character tends to be. He tends to leave the vampire/monster slaying up to the Belmonts and allied clans, and stays out of it (usually, he sleeps). Only occasionaly does he join in (he's been in, what, 4 games out of the 20 or so that took place from Castlevania 3 onwards?)

Really, though, if the movie was made, and it did well, they should follow the games. 1st movie, just Simon. Second movie, Simon again. 3rd movie, Simon, Alucard, the other two I never use.

Yeah, that.

Also, if I was rude, I apologize.

Y'know, if they ever do take another stab at making a Super Mario Bros movie, Yoshi should be more like Kevin the bird from Up and less like a Jurassic Park reject...

Seriously, go back and watch the scene in Up where we're first introduced to Kevin (when she's being chased through all the traps by the dogs) and just substitute the giant blue bird with a smaller, green dinosaur and it fits perfectly.

I'd like to see a Metroid movie that explored the semi-parental relationship between Samus and the baby Metroid. Heck, you could build a whole TV series around those.

Earthbound would make an awesome movie. And I'd totally go for a Metroid movie. Zelda could be good if the writer was talented. Not too sure about Mario though.

Bob,
First I want to reference a great Game Overthinker moment you did about close to this very same subject where you asked the Zelda fans if they REALLY wanted a film from their franchise? If they were absolutely (Robert Pattinson), positively (Micheal Cera), sure (Will Smith), they wanted to see their youthful joy get cut down by the Hollywood monster.
I want to bring this to the table because either Bob, you had a change of heart similar to the Grinch's growing 4 times it's size, or you needed to fill some pages for the Escapist. That's not to say that these aren't valid as films, Final Fight would be a great contender to the Kain and Lynch movie going out that no one and their dog cares about.
I personally thing that people need to start looking at works in terms of their medium again. There are stories that make good play, stories that make good films, stories that can only be fully appreciated in their written form. And now, in the 21st century, we're finally seeing games as stories that can only be appreciated the way their made, with personal interaction.
Just imagine watching a Shadow of the Colossus movie and not being able to control the guy running around that thing. Yes, it's still epic, but without having a tangible, physical connection to that character, it definitely means less.

Mass Effect and any game involving character creation should be stayed the hell away from when making movies. Set them in the universe if you wish, but never based upon the actual games themselves.

This goes double for any game that also involves choices that affect the game beyond the immediate moment of game-play (like Mass Effect and Virmire for example).

I'm fairly sure Uwe Bol is already making a Metroid movie... or at least rumored to be making 1...

A Legend of Zelda movie could work, but that would mean giving link a voice and developing him as a character which would be quite interesting/frightening.

I'm disappointed in no mention of Ace Attorney. C'mon, it's got comedic pacing like My Cousin Vinny, human drama like Twelve Angry Men, and goofy mysteries like A Shot in the Dark. This is one that could definitely work.

I mean, it's already a stage show!
Second. Give the part of Edgeworth to Johnny Depp and you've got a box office success right there, along with all the inevitable Hot Topic merchandise.

I think anyone who has said "Earthbound" is dead on. It would make a great movie.

I think the game i would MOST like to see as a Moive is Grim Fandango. Half the work is done already, the characters, dialog and story only need tweaking a little and as long as you nail the feel of the original you would have an EXTREAMLY great movie on your hands. The setting is one of the best i've experiecned in any medium and a faithful even lower budget would work becuase of the high quality of the source material.
Holy crap I was JUST thinking this! Unfortunately I never made it through the game since my computer crashed and I never made the time to start over, but it was fun, interesting and witty. I may need to go back and try again...

In response to the Legend of Zelda idea, do any of you remember IGN's April Fools Day movie trailer from a while back?

I was pissed when I found out it was a joke.

I disagree with you Bob on Legend of Zelda. I'm sorry but unless extreme changes are made it would be unfilmable. Your lead doesn't talk and he spends most of the adventure on his own searching dungeons... How do you develop a character out of that?. I mean you can have a lead who doesn't talk but they need a companion in order to reflect their emotions off of. This is the only reason Gromit works, because he has Wallace to set up most of the jokes with his stupidity to which Gromit will throw a snarky look.

I know I'm going to get shit for saying that off of plenty of fans and I doubt you care what I think but I'm just telling it how it is. You can't make a good movie out of a character who has no emotion... He just wouldn't be interesting. Which is why you couldn't have a film based around Half Life or Call of Duty, that or any other game where the protagonist doesn't talk.

The only way you could do it would be to scrap Link all together. Then just set the adventure in Hyrule but follow other characters. That or drastically change Link to the point where he's Link in name only.

Red dead would be awsome if they have cameo of Clint Eastwood.
He can be Landon Ricketts!
I actually think Sam Elliot would do better in that role since 1. He looks more like him and 2. I absolutely love that voice of his and it seems close to the game. Perhaps Mr. McFarlane would be a better role or Leigh Johnson

Anyway I agree to most of these but I am having a hard time trying to accept the concept of a Legend of Zelda Movie. Don't get me wrong I LOVE the series (I still think Majora's Mask is probably my favorite game of all time) but I just feel like a movie version would screw up some things I love about it. Plus I don't think Link should talk, and if you are offended by my remark all I have to say is "Well, EXCUUUUSE ME PRINCESS!!!"

Did you see the fake movie trailer right above you? Just saying I think that it could work.
