Hey guys,
I'm writing a text-based adventure game for my CompSci degree program. I could have picked one of half a dozen other projects, but none of the others had the magic word "game" in them, so they all looked pretty boring. Anyway, so far it's going pretty good. I've got a game engine which lets you move around, pick things up and drop them. What I haven't got is the faintest idea what the game is going to be about. To a certain extent, it doesn't really matter, since this is a programming assignment, not a game design assignment. I won't be marked for the gameplay, just for how well written the code is. Which means there's a certain licence to come up with weird ideas and not worry too much about whether they come off or not.

So, this is me soliciting ideas. Nothing NSFW, but otherwise pretty much go wild. Once the assignment is submitted, I'll post it back here for download.

Certain disclaimers apply: I can't promise I'll be able to use your idea, since it may count as plagiarism. As I said, it's not what I'll be marked on so I don't think it will be an issue, and I will check with the lecturer, but I can't find out now as it's the weekend. Also, I've got a limited number of man-hours to spend on this, so I probably can't do anything overly elaborate. If I do use your idea, you are free to any and all bragging rights, including being able to tell people you are officially a "games designer."

Any and all suggestions gratefully received, especially if they are funny.

How about a game where you play as some sort of hacker sent to shut down a rogue artificial intelligence with the ability to ravage the world. You instead get locked in a battle of wits against the thing and are forced to perform puzzles and compete in conversation or some such debacle.
