My nephew has been asked to create a cover for an anthology of poetry by Alfred Lord Tennyson. The cover has to have the central ideas of the poem represented in the cover's design. The poem he is doing, is called The Charge of The Light Brigade and he doesn't have any ideas on what he could do.

So, I thought I could ask people here at the escapist if they have any ideas.

Thanks.

Draw his uncle on a cross being hammered in by Harvey Milk whose is being lashed by Jesus wearing a republican hat next to Joe Biden shouting "RON PAUL 2012"

It's poetry... it really doesn't matter What he draws, as long as he can bullshit why he drew it..

I was all set to say "DYODH" until I remembered what forum I was posting on (even if only Ballistic Bum will get that joke, I'm still telling it.)

I'm with sirsolo. Art has about 0.000001% to do with creativity and is 99.999999% salesmanship. If he can come up with good enough bullshit, he could give the cover to a four-year-old Down's syndrome kid, give the kid some finger paint, and pass it off as a great work.

If he's in middle or elementary school, have him put a scroll on the front with some fancy looking writing from one of his poems on it, and a quill pen. Seriously, it always works. It's kinda sad really.

Yeah, that's about right. Although the picture has to be an extended metaphor.

Well as far as I can understand it , your nephew wants a cover which captures the values of what the poem represents correct? Well firstly you can do some research into the actual event:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charge_of_the_Light_Brigade

then consider what the poem represents as such: namely the heroism of the soldiers involved or / and the tragic hopelessness of the act itself. It can be viewed either way, or even both ways. In my opinion use the emblem of the 5th Dragoon Guards :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5th_Dragoon_Guards for it captures the element of Brigade, perhaps with a Cavalry Sabre to the side.
