Well, there is a trilogy of horror games, they are essentially point and click type games, but they are done from a first person perspective and they have a pretty decent physics engine to boot. I'd recommend the Penumbra trilogy; Overture, Black Plague, and Requiem. I think they're on Steam for pretty cheap.

beware Exmortis. It's a REALLY creepy game. I have problems with scary games of any sort, I let my mind enter into them and lose my sense of reality. I do that with every kind of book or story and let it pull me, though with tales of horror I could be afraid for a long time.

Definitely Exmortis 1 and 2. Those are...I've played a few horror games in the past, but I tend to avoid them now, because I just don't enjoy a game, when I'm being scared by it.
Well, especially before I start playing it. I never want to do it.

Ugh. I'm very much the same, not just with games, I remember seeing an advert for The Grudge when I was younger and being scared of stairs for a while.

At the moment I'm still trying to play through the third game in the Chzo Mythos, they're made by some obscure internet humour guy called Yahtzee.

There are also collector's editions that he's now made free due to the fact he needn't rely on donations now he gets money for Zero Punctuation.

There's a sort of point and click horror game called still life and it was dreadful, it single handedly put me off the entire genre. although, the opening cutscene and music were really good.

I think a REALLY GOOD point-and-click horror game can make the whole 'internet gaming' thing a lot more enjoyable.
But the ones that are done so abd that you expect them or they're jsut so unreal - can destroy your entire faith in everything that is good and pure about games. I think that point-and-click is not really my thing.
But this is more scary than other games because it is YOUR consequence for doing what you did which is the reason why it scares you most. And overall I think that is what makes a good game, immersion because you have complete control.

Point-and-click can be an awesome genre when well done... And sometimes can just be an absolute faith destroyer.
