Why is this guy so hard to catch? I've spent like 3 hours now trying to catch one. This is going to be a pain to get a good nature.

usually goes like this:

I start off with

Haxorus: False Swipe (leaves target with 1 hp remaining)

throw ultra ball

ultra ball fails

Gible uses take down and kills itself

I spend 25 minutes running around trying to find another gible

I find a gible, use venusaur this time and put it to sleep, switch to haxorus and false swipe, throw a ultra ball that fails, gible wakes up, I curse and switch to venusaur, gible uses take down, gible faints.

Ugh this guy keeps killing himself off. A couple of times I've had him down to 1HP, and Asleep and a freaking ultra ball failed to catch it. I am tempted to just use my master ball and reload until I get a good nature, but this thing is just a regular pokemon! Why's this gotta be so hard

Anyone got any tipes for making this easier? Maybe breeding? Do pokemon eggs have random natures? If you can't tell, I'm kind of a pokemon novice.

P.S. Sorry for saying pokemans.

Because Garchomp is a balla online and making it hard to catch takes away half the feeling of fulfilment when you finally raise it

As somebody above said, throw a quick ball immediately. It's not guaranteed to work, but they're pretty overpowered in X/Y in my experience. I caught two of the possible four legendaries using it (another being a near miss).

If the Gible happens to be ~15 or so levels below you, try a nest ball too. They're surprisingly effective.

Also, if the thing is gonna kill itself, don't 1hp him. Getting his health in the red zone is sufficient. I'd even recommend you start throwing balls when he's in the low yellow. Let him reduce his own health to the red - you might even get lucky and get a critical throw in the meantime.

EDIT: If you can, try paralyze him too. It doesn't make him *quite* as venerable to catching as putting him to sleep or freezing does, but it has the benefit of not being naturally curable.

If you're aiming for a particular nature, my advice is obtain either of the follow:

1) An Adamant Ditto holding an Everstone. Breed this with a Gible and every baby Gible produced will be Adamant.

2) An Adamant Pokemon with the Synchronise ability (E.g. Ralts, Abra, Espeon etc). If you go into battle with this pokemon out in front, 50% of all wild pokemon you encounter will be the same nature, i.e. in this case Adamant.

If you're aiming for a different nature than Adamant, just replace the word 'Adamant' above with the nature you want!

Note: these stats are only exact in X&Y, for example in previous generations the Everstone method only had a 50% effectiveness rate instead of 100%.

You want a Gible? I will send you a Gible egg if you like. PM with friend code. You'll have to do the Nature Breeding yourself though. My patience for that sort of thing has been tenuous lately.

Switch to a Ghost type before throwing Ultra Balls so Take Down misses?

At least it's possible to catch Graveller/Geodude at an earlier level before they learn how to spam Selfdestruct.

Just use online trading and you have one in 10 minutes.
Breed for the proper nature and IVs.
Nature is super easy if you have an adamant ditto, give it an everstone, stuff it in the daycare with whatever gibble and boom, adamant gibble.
I'd suggest you get a ditto of each nature you want (-special/+attack, +special/-attack, +speed/-attack, +speed/-special are the 4 basic ones, the rest is situational and neutral natures are useless)
IVs are a pain though -much easier than previous gen but still a pain- but only crucial for minmaxing so you can skip those.

Are we talking about X & Y? I'm not sure. I think it's X & Y. The easiest way to get a Gible is to add this friend code: 049050739245 under the name Goliath. Than post an comment, or pm me with your friend code, what nick name and egg moves you want, and what hour of day you will be online on.

Edit: The Gible is ready. He has perfect IVs in hp, attack, defence, sp. def and speed, adamant nature and Iron Head for does blood fairy types.

btw, is anyone trying to finish up any of the Gen 5 trading before the Nintendo Wi-Fi connection dies on May 20th?

i'm trying to finish the regional pokedex for unova on White (at least the view), but getting the vullaby/mandibuzz line will be rough. not sure about a thundurus -> tornadus -> thundurus trade either.
