As the speech was finishing, Sean's desire to not participate increased; he was certain this competition would be more trouble than it was worth, even though he was rather interested in learning more about that stone. Since he already owned a holo caster and a pokedex, and the ones that were being given out were rigged for the tournament, he didn't really see much point in joining other than indulging Ragna and Sol.
"If we are to enter this tournament, keep in mind that we would be doing so because you two want it, and that would drag Sponni into this too." he said, throwing quick glances at them, before raising his head to face Sponni and motioning him to come down. With all three of his pokemon facing him, he continued.
"There's one thing that needs to be clear if we are to enter this tournament. Inevitably, you'll all end up in battles. There's gonna be a lot of pain involved, and we don't know what we will be facing. We may end up being overwhelmed, and the prospect of losing is... high." at the thought of seeing his friends beaten up, Sean's face grew dark. "I'll only join if all three of you are certain you want to see this through. Well?"
Sol and Sponni nodded excitedly, while Ragna, pumped up by the prospect of beating strangers up, let out a roar.
"...Very well, then." Sean said whilst letting out a defeatist sigh, "Get in your pokeballs. I'll let you out after I sign up and come up with a plan."
-------
After reluctantly picking up his second holo caster and pokedex, Sean left the row and started puzzlingly looking around at the other competitors.
So much for redundancy... Let's see who I have been paired with.
Sean turned on his new holo caster, which displayed a map of Hoenn, along with a red dot and another seven blue ones.
I'm number... 26. And these other numbered dots must be my -urgh- rivals. Or allies. Hopefully allies.
He zoomed in on the map, and turned to look around.
Right. I suppose the first course of action should be to try and group up with the others. Let's hope they are reasonable. Let's start with the closest... Hmm, 4 and 10 are nearby, and they seem to have branded together already. A promising start!
With hasty steps, Sean swiftly closed in on their location. As he was about to get close enough to introduce himself, however, he saw a Metang throw a straight at a Dragonair, much like how a professional boxer would his opponent.
"..."
With a sharp 180 degree turn, Sean walked back towards the way he came from, double-timing his steps.
This wasn't promising! It wasn't promising at all! It was the exact opposite of promising!
As he was on the move, he checked his holo caster once again. A few steps away from him stood another one of his riv- allies! staring at his pokedex and holo caster in confusion.
Another one.
After his almost run-in with the other two, Sean was hesitant to introduce himself. If possible, now that his Pokemon were in their Pokeballs, he would rather avoid battling people. Still, he reasoned, I'll have to run into them eventually. Might as well get it over with. Whatever *it* may be.
"Greetings!" he called out as he walked towards his maybe-ally-maybe-rival, lifting his hat as a sign of etiquette (he had learned all about that kind of thing in Kalos), having the best friendly smile he could work out, "You must be one of my designated allies. Number 40, Thomas Lindberg, correct?"
Here's hoping he isn't the kind to start challenges the moment he makes eye contact.
