So, I'm kind of curious about something. Pretty much every time I hear the 2004 Gamecube game 'Pokemon Colosseum' mentioned, it's usually in the context of how 'bad' it was. Why is that?

I'm not being condescending or saying 'everyone is wrong, grr', I'm genuinely curious. I played Pokemon Colosseum when it came out, and while it didn't set my world on fire, I thought is was a pretty fun game. The 3D Pokemon battles were cool, the music was awesome, I appreciated having some different mechanics from the handheld entries (I.e. the whole 'Shadow Pokemon' thing). So, what were your thoughts on the game?

I liked it.

-It was the closest we've ever gotten to a traditional 3D Pokemon game.
-It had a slightly darker story line.
-You could transfer your captured Pokemon to the handheld versions, including Entei, Suicune and Raikou,
which at the time couldn't be gotten anywhere else.

Why would people dislike such things?

I loved it. The whole healing the shadow pokemon's hearts mechanic got annoying (I gave them all massages lol), but other than that I thought it was awesome. The Under FTW. That water city was pretty cool too.

In fact I might just go back and play it again!

I agree. It was a fun and refreshing take on Pokemon. It's darker themes kind of reminded me of the Pokemon Manga.

Also, On another note, that game was hard as hell. The fact that you couldn't grind and had to capture 'mons that were higher levels than yours was difficult. I remember raging around the time I tried to capture suicune(Goddamn those legendaries are hard to get).

I also agree that Pokemon Colosseum was great. Unlike others, I enjoy training and raising Pokemon, so the Purification process wasn't only enjoyable, but easy (since I learned that you could feed the Pokemon something that causes them to be purified quickly).

I guess the reason some people disliked it was because the difficulty curve and constraints with snagging or raising Pokemon. It was nearly there in terms of a full 3D Pokemon console game; all it needed was a way to battle defeated trainers again (i.e. VS Seeker) and to actually catch some Wild Pokemon.

I really enjoyed it. However, some people may not have liked it because you couldn't catch wild Pokemon like you obviously can in handheld games

I've never actually heard anything about Pokemon Colosseum, good or bad. I thought it was great, and Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness was also very good too. I tried buying XD but it's actually quite expensive and rare.

I usually thought Coliseum was considering a fairly good game to get on the Gamecube because of it's slightly differing mechanics. I thought it was nice, it was a nice change of pace from the handheld games, the story was a little darker and it was really the first 3D pokemon that allowed you walk around the map, unlike Stadium etc.

Damn, the more I think about the Gamecube the more I wanted order Luigi's Mansion, Mario Sunshine, Pokemon Coliseum and Metroid Prime to play on my Wii.

I just didn't like it as it was a poor attempt to be a rp game and elimate certain aspect of stuff that make it Pokemon like no random encounter and just travel places to places easily. Yes I understand they can never fit that much stuff into a 3D game but stull.

I have to give it credit thought as that game did brought us this kickass version of one of their themetune!!
