Y'know what I like? Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. I never got into the main series, I didn't really enjoy the gameplay or the storylines, but Pokemon themselves, I love the little dudes. And that being the case, what's more fun than a game where you play as one of 'em? That's quality, those games are great. You're a Pokemon, and you're part of a team that's devoted to helping people. Heck, that's cool, but that's where my interest wanes a little bit, 'cause you know what my favorite part of the main games was? Team Rocket.

So here's where this idea strikes me. "I haven't roleplayed in a while, I'm starting to miss it a little bit, and I've got this idea kicking about in the back of my head..." So I make my way back to my old stomping ground, and it is here that I present my idea to you: Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, but you're Pokemon Team Rocket.

I know "Pokemon Team Rocket" sounds redundant, but what I mean is this: you're a gang of Pokemon who are real assholes. You got sick of breaking the law, so you decided you wanted to make the law. Maybe you're a real piece of shit who thinks he's entitled to everything and likes hurting other Pokemon for fun. Maybe you got born in a bad situation and your mum really needs the money, I don't know. I don't care. Here in the Dreadful Bastard Society (this is a working title, but I really kind of like it) we're all equals. We take what we like from whoever we don't like, and if anyone doesn't like that, we'll give them a hard time about it.

Beyond the concept, I haven't formulated much of a plot, so that's what this interest thread's for. If you're hot for it, let me know. You'd be playing as an entry-level grunt in the organization so early going would probably involve you having to prove yourself to the guys upstairs, maybe getting to know the other guys a little better (the social side of RPs was always my favourite part) and then getting directed on successively more challenging missions as events escalate.

I'd be very open to the possibility of a rival organization existing, maybe one devoted to doing good and righting the wrongs of our guys, or maybe even a seperate crime organization who keep getting in our hair and vice versa. If anybody'd be interested in heading one of those, again, let me know in the thread.

Sure, man. What, like RP guidelines? I guess it'd basically be standard stuff, y'know, no godmoding, no controlling other peoples' characters, keep OOC chatter in labelled readmores. I was thinking since everybody'd be entry-level grunts they'd probably start off playing a first-stage Pokemon (or something like Pikachu or Jigglypuff, y'know, something around that stage), but I don't have any real specific rules that I've thought of beyond that. I guess I'd probably better come up with some, actually, or that might end up causing complications.

i want to reserve a spot also.

What kind of pokemon can we be, how many moves, any things we need to have about our pokemon like they have to be able to evolve.

Things like that.

Any stage-one (or stage-one-ish, like how Pikachu is even though he technically evolves from Pichu) Pokemon, excluding legendaries and the like. I'm gonna say four moves, and on top of that you have to provide a description of what the move does (you can get creative here, as in the games it's just a name and a little graphic, so you can interpret these moves however you wanna within the boundaries of reason). They don't have to be able to evolve at all, definitely not, but if they can I'll probably let you know when it's set to happen. It'll be at some plot-appropriate moment, probably.

I'm not gonna say you have to include your Pokemon's backstory in your sign-up sheet, as that can be something you share with the other characters during the roleplay itself as soon as you get close enough to them that you feel like divulging bits about your past... Y'know what, I should throw together a character-sheet template pretty soon, actually. Gimme a second to do that, then you guys can start filling 'em in if you wanna.

Man, this seems a little bare-bones, but all I've got for this thing is Name, Species, Moveset and Description. Appearance isn't really necessary 'cause we all know what every Pokemon looks like, age doesn't seem all that important and none of us know what Pokemon age like anyway, and as I said before background isn't something I want on the sheets. I guess that's alright, though, filling in sheets isn't anybody's favourite part of roleplaying anyway. Description's personality, plus I guess any unique details of your character's appearance.
Name: Charles LeZar

Species: Charmeleon

Moveset: Scratch (attacks with his sharp claws; causes mainly superficial damage to his opponent's skin, but little beyond that)

Smokescreen (vomits smoke out into the battlefield, usually used as a distraction to allow him to escape or enable his underlings to launch sneak-attacks. underlings have no heightened means of seeing through the smoke and this move backfires on them just as much as it damages the opponents, but this isn't Charles' problem as he's not the one breathing in smoke)

Toxic (secretes a heavily poisonous liquid from the user's tongue. as the poison is only harmful if ingested this move isn't especially useful in battle but serves well in matters of subterfuge. poison - as with most Pokemon-produced poisons - will never cause death of a Pokemon, but will sap away strength fairly quickly as well as causing unbearable pain until targeted Pokemon falls unconscious)

Double-Team (causes holographic copies of user to appear, causing confusion and enabling them to slip away or mount a sneak-attack on their target)

Description: The Dreadful Bastard Society's mysterious leader's mouthpiece, through which he relays orders and communicates with those on the lower echelons of the Society. Tends to abstain from front-line combat himself, due to a vested interest in preserving his own skin. A real bastard. Believes members of the Charmander evolutionary line to be "a cut above" all other Pokemon in various nonspecific ways, and looks down on all other Pokemon types. Not well-liked among his contemporaries, but holds enough sway with the boss that they tend to keep their opinions of him to themselves. Verbally debases anybody he can find an excuse to, but rarely lays hands on them (claims it's because he doesn't want to dirty them; in truth, it's because he's a frightful coward and is afraid of being hit back).

Obviously here I've come up with some descriptions for moves that I think suit my guy, but if you want the same moves to do something else go ahead and give your own descriptions for 'em. In a world where Pokemon were real, I don't believe there'd be any way Pokemon attacks were as limited as the games make them out to be. Just don't make yours too powerful, is all.

Man, I'm gonna try to distance this from game mechanics as hard as I can, 'cause I feel like they aren't realistic. We're gonna make our own story here, we don't need to be tied down by weird rules. I'd say any move that your Pokemon's able to learn, you can have.

Okay, here's my sheet:

Name: Abby Mindfang
Species: Espurr
Moveset:
Scratch- scratches at an enemy with her claws.
Disarming Voice- Abby lets loose with a disarming cry that disorients her target, allowing her to attack more.
Confusion- attacks with a psychic wave that ca confuse the target.
Psyshock- unleashes a wave of psychic energy

Description: Abby was born into a fairly well-to-do family, and as such was spoiled rotten. Anything she wanted, she got. Unfortunately, this only helped further her psychotic tendencies, held only in check by her family. Then everything changed when her father, out of growing concern over her behavior, finally put his foot down in an attempt to curb her desires. Angry at being denies, Abby unleashed a psychic wave that accidentally killed her father. It was at this point, seeing her father dead on the floor, that that she completely and utterly snapped, going on tho kill the rest of her family before fleeing into the night. Now Abby lives the way she wants to, doing whatever she pleases without anyone telling her what to do. Her personality has shifted for the worse, making her a self-centered, coldhearted, impulsive, bipolar and arrogant psychopath who has found that she enjoys manipulating and harming others for her own amusement. Currently, she has joined the Dreadful Bastards just so she can have fun.

That's pretty much it, but comments and criticism are welcome.

EDIT: Added some attack details. y the way, can we have more than 4 moves?

Alright, that's a pretty cool character. You haven't really gone into detail about what your four moves do, though, that's something I really wanna see.

Y'know, I'm not sure if this thread actually works the best as a "sign-ups thread", as the OP's pretty informal and it's not labelled as that. D'you guys figure I should start a new one specifically for sign-ups, as opposed to this one which was really just for gathering interest?

Name: flower Mac'Teeth

Species: Mawile

Moveset:
Iron defense: Tensing up the bundled muscles in her body they become as hard as steel, her muscles staying tensed.
Iron head: Tensing up her extra mouth and spinning it slams into something and it is hard like a steel. sometimes it hits a paticularly painful spot and makes the person being hit flinch.
Fairy wind: Opening her small mouth the wind of fairy land comes out with intensity, petals and pink flashs flying with it as it whips out and hits the thing infront of her.
Feint attack: Acting like she is fainting she waits till the opponent gets close before her head comes up and she bites them hard. Even if it is seen multiple times she has practiced her faints so they continue to fall for it.

Description:
Growing up outside a city she started bullying those around her from a young age, using her power and powerful jaws to make those around her do what she wants, or pay the price. She enjoys making those weaker or smaller or those who are nicer than her. She will go against anyone who tries to stand up to her and even if she is beat she will come back later and do anything needed to win. She joined the dreadful bastardsto gain more power and to have a group behind her if she gets pushed by someone more powerful than she can take on herself. everyone who has ever made fun of her name has found themselves with sharp teeth grabbing them and face fulls of fairy wind till they are sorry.

Hey, cool sheet, man! I really like the concept, "dick bully" is always a pretty fun character to play, and those moves are really creative. I could see a lot of those having some fun applications.

Name: Alexander Crystalin

Species: Snivy [shiny]

Moveset:

Wrap: All snakes develop a specific enjoyment for watching their quarry struggle and snap under intense pressure, And the sadistic bastard that is Alexander is no different, immobilises foes with vines to assault them or have teammates assault the bound victim, can be broken out of.

Edit: An opponent can easily hit alexander with attacks if they are wrapped, it doesn't stop his opponents from hurting him during this manoeuvre, and therefore is only used to attempt some of his more damaging attacks.

Giga drain: Edited: To make this attack less OP, alexander will not be able to regain any life from the giga drain and will only be able to take life away. Must be done up close and with his fangs.

Toxic: Alexander enjoys nothing more than watching people die in absolute agony slowly and painfully, and another way to inflict that pain is to drench his opponent in thick putrid poison. With a poisonous ability he can slowly break down his enemies until they give in on their own, the more they fight with him the more they will get weaker, playing his opponents right into the baiting game toxic is the game changer that when striking his opponent his victory is almost assured so long as he plays a far and safe game. And what kind of sadistic prick wouldn't enjoy watching his opponents writhe in despair as they croak their last pleas for help?

Edit: While toxic is dangerous it can be treated and takes some time to charge before he can hit his opponents, so this attack may have a hard time hitting moving opponents. Fired from the maw.

Energy ball: Can lob a large orb of grass energy at his opponent in hopes of hitting them from a long distance, nothing special about this attack.

Description:

Even when born as just an innocent little snivy from his egg, Alexander was always a Vile, disturbing, narcissistic, Nihilistic, sadistic, moral lacking, impolite, incredibly rude, destructive, masochistic, psychopathic, aggressive bastard. Some people grow up to become evil, Alexander was born with chaos in his head and heart. As a young boy Alexander took great pleasure in kidnapping other children around his age and inspecting their anatomies, but he couldn't just let them go, they would tell their parents, and then he wouldn't be able to have fun inspecting them anymore, so Alexander decided to come up with a simple conclusion.

"If my pets cant move, and cant speak, then they won't tell anyone! It's so simple!"

And so the sadistic child did exactly that, no legs were needed and no tongue was desired for his victims, and so many would go missing from his murderous desires, and only continuing to grow would cause him to come more psychopathic and sadistic with each kill, His parents were easy fodder from his intellectual and physical ability growing with each passing day, their corpses was skinned, keeping them with him wherever he went as a reminder of how superior he was to them, there was nothing sane left within him, he would act kind, calm and nice but deep down he was mad, pure and simple, a complete destructive piece of shit, gaining new abilities, and new strategies, it would have only been a matter of time before being found by Pokemon Team Rocket for his disturbing tactics and actions, and he found a new home, no longer having to be alone, being able to get a place where he could torture and let the madness envelope him, this was bliss, he would carry out the orders he was given so long as all his desires were sated, and for such a destructive group that was easy, He isn't afraid of his colleagues and if given the chance he will show himself to be superior to them, as is his nature.

Now part of Pokemon Team Rocket the evil monster has a few defining features, not only being a shiny variant of himself, the Snivy possesses scars along his underbelly and tiny arms, he also possesses very discoloured light red eyes, deep bags under his eyes and a heavy twitch, he also wears a green vest around his upper body made out of his parents skinned bodies.

He is right at home.

Man, this sheet's cool, but I think your guy's a little too powerful. Like, I hear what you're saying about maybe playing one of the higher-ups, but I think I'd really have to know whoever I was playing with as a player before I'd let them take on a role like that, and aside from that you probably wouldn't have a whole lot of fun, as most of the game's gonna spent playing as grunts being sent off to die on ridiculously high-task missions. I have to say, I love the personality you put into all those move descriptions, that's really cool, but I think they're a tad overpowered. Try and dial 'em down a little bit, maybe switch out Leaf Storm for Razor Leaf and other changes like that.

The game's hopefully still happening, but I think I may have picked the worst possible time to set up shop, as it's exam season. I'm gonna wait 'til exams are over for everybody, 'cause hopefully then the board'll be a bit more active and I'll get more sign-ups and faster posting in the thread once it starts.

Dudes, is it alright if I ask you something? I mean, this is off-topic, but it's my dang thread so whatever; I used to post on here pretty regularly back around 2010, and I remember the board moving a ton faster. I said in that last post of mine "I'm waiting 'til the end of exam season, things'll probably pick up the pace a little then", but I don't really have a relevant scale of reference there, so I've gotta ask you guys; is the board usually this slow? It only seems like there's about ten active games going on on here at the minute, and they're "active" in the sense that they'll get maybe a post every hour. Is this kind of standard posting rate now, or is it a symptom of exam week?

I actually enjoy posts every hour than every minute, the fun of forum rps is that everyone has stuff to do so its only right to get a break of a few hours and not miss anything just because you wanted to do something different.

Also. I Edited the bio to be less Op just so you know.

Sure, man, it's not so bad. The lack of games ongoing is all that's really bothering me right now, as I'm worrying there might really not be a huge number of users on the board nowadays, and a small number of users means I've got a small number of potential sign-ups, which might mean this game never gets its feet off the ground. I'll give your updated sheet a gander, anyway, I'll let you know what I think to it.
