For those who don't know, Australia's in a bit of a crisis at the moment. Liberal (ironically, our conservative party) and Labor (formerly our left-wing party, now not much different from the Libs) are neck-on neck for government after the election. It's a hung parliament, so the other parties that have gained seats in the House of Representatives have to take a side to disrupt the balance. This has been going on for days, and hopefully we will have a resolution by the end of this week.

Anyway, someone decided to make a Pokemon-based animation detailing Australia's political history from the dawn of the Liberal/Labor schism (late 40s) onward. It made my day, so I'm showing it to you guys.

Enjoy!

Perhaps this should be in Religion & Politics. Or maybe Gaming Discussion. Regardless, what are your thoughts on the recent Australian political debacle?

Haha, classic. I actually think this is a good opportunity for Australian politics hopefully, just maybe, the Indepenents and Greens will be able to stop the ALP and the Liberals from the same bullshit they've been going on with for years, and the change in the usual stability will force them to actually think about their policies as apposed to polls

Was... Was that meant to be Paul Keating?

Re: The election.
I'm hoping for at least some sort of government to be formed for a while anyway. I don't want to go back to the polls. At least two of the independents seem to be two fairly progressive if regional based politicians with some substance. Then there is Bob Katter. Except for the Katter factor I would think that Labour could easily form government the the Green and Independents as their policies have actually been kinder to the Bush than the Lib/Nats. I think Labour could be finished as a political force though, as I don't think they will be able to form future governments without a coalition with the Greens or a move away from the center of politics. Who knows? Maybe Rudd's back down on the CTS will kill off labour like Meg Lees killed the Democrats with the GST.

I will also miss the lone voice of reason and compassion on the right, Petro Georgio you will be sorely missed.

I agree. It'll hopefully give Labor the kick up the ass it's so sorely needed since Keating got the boot. Also, the thousands of donkey voters this election should be feeling ashamed right about now.

This thread should be in Religion and Politics - obviously.

What's happening right now in Australia could be a really good thing, because if any major parties want to pass any legislation that the other party objects to, they have to play ball with the Greens...
