Currently: Going through Mt. Moon
Very similar to his, I will be going through Pokemon Fire Red (instead of Sapphire) using only one type of Pokemon. I'm not even restricting this to a type, I'm going further than that. Bird Pokemon only. Flying Pokemon don't count unless they are birds.
Now, I'm about a half-hour into the playthrough, but I just now decided to share it with you fine people. So here's the recap:
Started off. Met Professor Oak. Named my character "Golden", which is what I name all my characters in Pokemon. Named my Rival "Luke", which is also what I always name my Rivals in Pokemon. Got to choose my starter. Pidgey, Hoothoot, or Tailow? I went with Pidgey because I love Pidgeots. My rival chose Charmander. After a quick fight where I wrecked my rival, my Pidgey leveled up and was now level 6!
Started my real journey. By the time I got to Viridian City my Pidgey was level 10 and kicking butt. Unfortunately, I had to walk all the way back and bring Professor Oak something because he's to lazy to do get it himself. I got the PokeDex and was ready to start my journey (for real this time). Went through Viridian Forest, beating a bunch of Bug Catchers along the way. Their Bug Pokemon didn't stand a chance against my Pidgey.
I finally got to Pewter City and immediately went to challenge the Gym Leader: Brock. I beat his trainer without too much trouble and after healing my Pidgey, decided to fight Brock.
To put it bluntly, I got my ass handed to me. Brock's Geodude, while lower in level, dominated my poor Pidgey with its high defense.
As of now, I have tried to fight Brock 4 times and my Pidgey is level 16. I'm going to keep fighting Brock to gain experience points until my Pidgey is good enough to beat him.
Time to take on Brock again!
The battle starts with both of us spamming buffs/debuffs. My Pidgey using Sand-Attack and his Geodude using Defense Curl.
Okay! It's finally time to attack! This is how much damage I've done after hitting the Geodude 4 times...
Yay! I beat his Geodude and now Pidgey is level 17. And it only took me 21 Tackles, 6 Sand-Attacks, and a Potion.
Now I only have to deal with... Onix... Shit.
One Rock Tomb completely negates the Potion that I just used... On top of that, it lowered my speed.
A couple of Tackles, Binds, and a Rock Tomb later, my Pidgey has fainted, and I have lost... again.
After fighting Brock 11 times and still not being able to beat him, my Pidgey has reached level 20 and evolved into a Pidgeotto!
Now you folks who know your Pokemon should be thinking: "But ChromeWarriorXIII, Pidgey evolves at level 18!" Well... I thought so too... but if your Pokemon levels up and then you lose the battle, the Pokemon keeps the level, but doesn't evolve. This is something I just learned. But I finally managed to time it so that it only needed a bit more experience and went and killed a few Weedles and Caterpies to get it to level up.
So with newfound confidence, I'm going to face Brock for the 12th time!
That's right. Finally, after 13 tries, I have beaten Brock and gotten the Boulder Badge. Now I finally get to move on and see the rest of the world. Thankfully, because of all the training I did to beat Brock, I should have no trouble with the next couple gyms.
As soon as I leave Pewter City, I'm thrown into a battle. It's okay though, it's only a Pidgey. My Spearow can handle this!
Next a Bug Catcher with a Caterpie. Ha! Caterpie? I have you now!
And what do you know? Spearow levels up!
And again...
And again!
Now it's time to fight a Youngster.
Okay... good for you...
Woah, his Rattata is stronger than I thought! Time to switch out!
More battles!
What is up with these kids and shorts?
And finally! I reach Mt. Moon. Cerulean City, here I come!
I'll update this as much as I can but if there isn't an update for a couple days, it's because I'm busy, not because I've forgotten.

I decided that if I wanted to do good then I would need more Pokemon in my party. So I went back through Viridian Forest and went towards the direction of the Pokemon League. I remembered there being Spearows there on previous playthroughs of the games.
The first Pokemon I ran into was a Mankey. While it's an awesome Pokemon and at any other time I would have caught it but I couldn't break my birds only rule, as tempting as it was.
Then I triggered an event I wasn't expecting. My rival came over and told me not to head to the Pokemon League, and that I probably didn't have any badges anyway. He wanted to try and prove he was better than me so the battle started.
First he sent out a Pidgey, level 9. I laughed and knocked it out with a Tackle. This was followed by his Charmander, also level 9.
I laughed again and took it out with a Quick Attack.
Defeated, my rival ran off with his tail between his legs. I was victorious, and I finally had some money.
My quest for a Spearow continued and to my amazement, the next Pokemon I ran into was a Spearow! I caught it on my first try and it became a part of my party!
Now Spearow needed some training though, before I went to the next gym. So I ran around a little in Viridian Forest to take Spearow for a test run.
Spearow VS. Weedle and Spearow wiped the floor with Peck being Super Effective.
After getting my Spearow to level 5 I decided to continue on. I went through Pewter City but was stopped by a guy in a lab coat. He handed me a package and upon opening it I got...
The Running Shoes! Sent to me by my kind-hearted mom. Now to continue my journey!

This is probably the longest section that I've posted so far, try to bare with me.
The first Pokemon I as up against was a Zubat. Nothing too hard though, considering it was a good 3 levels lower than my Spearow.
All it took was one critical hit though and the Zubat was history.
Found Bullet Seed. I can't imagine it being very helpful though, since I don't think I will have a Pokemon that will be able to learn it. I'll probably sell it for extra money.
Suspicious Men hmm? I wonder who they could be...
Oh really? Want to battle while you wait?
A Geodude caused a bit of problems for Spearow, but we took it out in the end.
A Super Nerd?
Damn, that Thundershock almost killed my Spearow!
Pidgeotto grew to level 22!
I have nothing against using the occasional Rare Candy!
Another Bug Catcher? What are they doing in a cave anyway? Oh, maybe their looking for Paras' I've seen a ton of them.
After 1 hit killing all of his Pokemon, I'm ready to move on!
Yay! Spearow is at level 15 now!
And after a few more battles, Pidgeotto is level 23. Unfortunately, Spearow has fainted.
Luckily, I found a Revive and used it on Spearow!
Team Rocket was behind this? Why is that not surprising?
Ha! I bet you are!
Ooh, a Clefairy. Too bad I can't catch it...
What fossils?
You don't say?
Those fossils are mine! I will get them and sell them for lots of money!
Pidgeotto grew to level 24!
Fine... I'll share if I have to. (I took the Dome Fossil)
Finally out of that boring cave! And I got a sweet fossil out of it too. Here I come Cerulean City! I hope you're not ready!
