I have been thinking about this for awhile.

I think nintendo should release pokemon gray on the 3ds. The pokemon franchise has always been a big moneymaker. As great as ocarina of time 3d, super mario 3d land, and mariokart 7 were, they were not exactly system sellers. I fell like releasing a pokemon game on the 3ds would be a great way to boost sales. Pokemon Black and White sold 1.08 copies on day one. It makes sense to make it for the 3ds.

What are your guys' thoughts on the idea of pokemon grey? Would you buy it?

The 3DS is a relative Bomb, it wouldn't be clever to make it specifically for the 3DS as a lot of people simply wouldnt be willing to pay for a new DS just for another pokemon game. Making the game 3DS compatible with exclusive 3DS features would be a good idea, as people can play the game and then when they're ready make the transition, but they should probably wait for the next generation of pokemon games for that.

Nintendo can't afford to have a pokemon game bomb as much as the 3DS has, and even though it will promote sales i doubt it would earn as much if released as a non-3DS exclusive.

All i can say for sure is, i wouldnt buy a 3DS for pokemon Grey, and ive owned two games from each set of three, one of which is always the third one released.

I disagree strongly.

Pokemon is one of the system sellers. I knew a person who bought a DS just to play plokemon pearl then sold it a few months later when he was 100% done with the game.
All i can go on is my own experience, and while i personal purchased my DS to play pokemon, i doubt anyone would do so for the 3DS specifically. Of the people i know, most of which are avid gamers including of pokemon, the only people i know to have gotten a 3DS is my girlfriends little sisters. And thats only because her dad had no idea what else to get so just buys whatever new hardware is on the market.

The 3ds was not a bomb. It's first year of sales have surpassed the Ds's first year

People buy 360's just for Halo.

People buy PS3 just for Uncharted.

Why would it be any different for a 3DS for one of Nintendo's oldest and most nostalgic games?

Making bold claims like "The 3DS bombed" based on your "own experience" is the same as pulling information out of nowhere. You have nothing to back up your claim but your own word.

The key word there was relative. Comparing to the 3DSs figures to the DSs isn't a decent enough comparison to judge success. The 3DS was expected to do A LOT better than it did, this expection was massively off. When the DS came out it was new and fancy. The 3DS is an upgrade, and not a cheap one. The 3DS has been described as having 'poor sales' and even 'failure.'

But like i said earlier, i'm largely referring to my person experience. I wanted a DS, i greatly enjoy my current DS but have absolutely no intention or care to purchase a 3DS, and trying to attract audiences by giving a more-or-less unchanged game with a 3D coat of paint doesn't seem like the best solution to me.

I'd say that Pokemon Gray ending up on the 3DS is almost a given in my book. It's not unheard of for Nintendo to release the third game in a set on a different system (Pokemon Crystal, anyone?), and another AAA game on the system is EXACTLY what it needs at this point.

And not only that... but the DS is dead. Long live the DS!

I never said that my claim of the nds bombing was due to personal experience, i said the 3ds bombed, and then in another post i used my own experience to talk about the the pokemon sales speculation, and i don't appreciate you butchering my arguments to then support your own claims. Its called Hypocrisy, and its not an attractive feature. The significant drop in price and nintendos financial drop support my argument of the 3DSs poor outcome, 'bombing' was a exaggeration obviously, but i assumed you could have noticed that.

Before the rest of this message board crucifies James Mann, i feel like we lost sight of what this thread was about.

The DS had a hell of library with fantastic 3rd party support. Hopefull the 3ds will get the same

It is very rare to see the third game in a generation jump to a new platform. I think the last time it happened was with Yellow on the Gameboy Colour. Black and White probably should have been launch titles for the 3DS, that would have moved the things. But I don't see them choosing to skip over to the 3DS now. More likely with the remakes of Ruby and Sapphire.

Personally I think if they make a Pokemon grey-esque game, they should see out generation 5 on the DS and then if there's a generation 6, go onto the 3DS. But I'd say the 3DS is more suited to Pokemon games like XD and Collosseum.

The 3DS is like any new system. It's like saying the PS3 was a bomb back when it was new. There are never any good games first gen (usually).

Don't make it for the 3ds yet. Though it would be cool to have an actual battle frontier, as well as a lot more use of triple battles.

As much as I would love for Gray to be on the 3DS, it is likely to be the same game as Black and White, only with a few more bells and whistles and revolving around Kyurem (as opposed to Zekrom or Reshiram), so it would make more sense for Nintendo to have Gray on the DS.

Though I do wonder what Gray will have in place of Black City or White Forest? Maybe Gray Town, where you can battle some trainers and catch a few wild pokemon as well?

I would buy it but they need to make a drastic change from the B&W visuals.
Is it really that hard to make the characters, world, and monsters like in Dragon Quest IX?
Imagine running around with Touko in an semi isometric "3D" world and instead of running through tall grass, it'll be just like in Dragon Quest IX you'll be able to see the Pokemon right on the outer world just walking around and ready for traditional PKM battle upon contact.
I don't think it'll be too hard just take the Dragon Quest IX engine and apply Pokemon to it and there done, Pokemon Gray for either 3DS or DS, 3DS version includes a 3D Pokedex.

If they revamped this so that the 3D is there for a reason that will finally convince me to buy a 3DS. But as of right now, I havn't played Black or White so its going to be a different experience for me either way.

maybe it could be interchangeable? or you could make choices in the game that affect the outcome
