Hello there people of The Escapist!

Look, I know how we all hate the "Recommend me a (Blank)" series of threads, but ya know what?
I'm not doing this for me dammit! I'm doing this for YOU! To long have I sat on the sidelines and watched as you had fun with your Pokemon!

*Ahem*.... Let me explain:

I've recently been trying to become more open minded, so I have been trying some new games that I normally would have avoided. I tried both Portal and Team Fortress 2, and I loved both of them, and as of right now I am playing Half Life 2. (fun, but hard as balls)

But my point is, I'm going to try a Pokemon game. The last Pokemon game I tried was Sapphire, I was about 9ish.

I'm 16 now.

Anyone got any suggestions on what game I should get?
I have been doing research on my own, and I have Wiki'd Pokemon games, and I have learned a lot.
Here are the things I'm looking for:

-Has forts like in Sapphire/Ruby (Ya know, you could buy stuff and put it into a little fort in a tree or something)
-Has factions like in Sapphire/Ruby (Aqua, Magma)
-Has EVERY Pokemon
-Not a Re-make (Or at least not a blatant re-make. I beat Red and Sapphire in grade school. I want a new experience.)

Thanks for the help guys.

-Forts? Huh? I'm afraid I don't follow you.
-Generation III was the only generation to have factions. Out of luck there, bud.
-HAHAHA...wait, you're serious? No version has every Pokemon. You need to trade with others or get the other versions and trade with yourself.
-Er. Then you're probably going to want Gen. IV - Diamond or Pearl or Platinum.

So, my suggestion? Go either Platinum or HeartGold/SoulSilver.

Heart Gold or Soul Silver they wont be remakes more like epic re-imaginings =D

i think silver gold were the best games and hopefully if they improve on the old content and put some new stuff in they will be awesome

I think he means "secret base". They're not entirely gone, either; you can make bases something like them in "the underground" for D/P/P. I don't know if they'll include them in HG/SS or not, but I haven't been following the news on those games for a while even though I ahve them pre-ordered.

Well I do have my Pokemon master certifaction, I can tell you none of the games will have all you what.
None of the games has all the pokemon, but on its own silver/gold has the most.
I also have no idea what a fort is.
And of course factions were exclusive to Ruby/Sapire

Just get Heart/Soul, Its a remake but it was the pokemon with the most content and now its back with extra features, besides what is wrong with doing something from your younger years nostalgia is important if you want to go back to pokemon.

I would have to say Soul Silver or Heart Gold.
I know you said no re-makes, but these one's are a really good re-make. I think you'd have a lot of fun with them.

Eh Gold and Silver have got a crapload of play time.

But I digress. If you like the Pokemon series, you should really, REALLY try the Mother series. Starting with Earthbound, moving onto Mother 3. Seriously. It could be one of the best gaming decisions you will make.

SoulSilver is great, but if you don't want a remake, I guess you could go with Platinum. Platinum has given me over 140 hours of playtime which is pretty impressive for a game like that. Just go for Platinum for now.

GENERATION ONE

The only true games.

Yeahhh I've only ever had Red and Yellow, can't really help you (they are, along with blue, the best ones though)

I would swallow my ignorance and get HeartGold and/or Fire red.
It's clearly the best deal.

The original silver version is still a ROM sittingon my computer. I play it often. The 2nd gen is THAT good.

Seriously, saying, "NO remakes" when the best gen just got remade is blatant ignorance. Get HG or SS. You won't be dissapointed. I promise.

Gen IV has underground caves.

There are no "factions" as in rivalling gangs, but each game has an evil gang.

Ha, that will be the day. No one pokemon game allows you to catch every pokemon. In fact, no one pokemon game allows you to catch every pokemon in that GENERATION, hence requiring you to buy other games to trade. Though, if morality is no option, download a fan-made Rom like Ruby Destiny.

Ok, so blowing GenIII and GenI out of the water, that leaves Gold/Silver/Crystal, and Diamond/Pearl/Platinum. It's worth getting heart gold or soul silver rather than the older versions if you prefer the current generation of Pokemon gaming. The elemental remakes of 1st gen (fire red and leaf green) are remakes but totally revamped, probably worth a look if you like the feeling of nostalgia from GenI.
