Pokemon Question

I dont really know how to ask this question but.... What does in a pinch mean and how does it work...

Like when you choose one of the 3 starter pokemon the ability they have is Up 'type' in a pinch.

What exactly is that ?

I'm not a expert but I think it means when your at low life. Such as when the bar is red and it makes that annoying beeping sound.

When your Pokemon has critical health, moves of that group (Blaze for sake of helping, powers up your fire based moves)

When your pokemon's HP is in the Red zone (its HP bar will turn red and you will hear a warning beep in battle) that's being in a pinch.

And the effects vary from pokemon skill to pokemon skill.
I have a Torterra that has the Ability Overgrow.
When its in a pinch Overgrow makes the power of his Grass type moves will increase.

Specifically, it means that it raises the power of moves of that type, when your health falls below 1/3.

Torrent raises the power of Water moves when Mudkip falls below 1/3 health. Blaze does the same for Cyndaquil. Overgrow the same for Bulbasaur.

There's also ones for other types, as well. Such as Swarm.
