Pokemon Ruby Red/Alpha Sapphire Worth It?

I haven't played a Pokemon game since Pokemon Red, back in 1998. I know there's a lot of buzz around these new Pokemon games, but I don't really understand why. I mean, I enjoyed playing Pokemon when I was in 6th grade but it seems like it's essentially the same game but prettier and with more Pokemon. Is it worth me getting the game or is it more for people who are looking for more of the same? I enjoyed it when I was a kid and I don't need games to constantly change (I love the Dynasty Warriors series), but I'm not sure the Pokemon gameplay is addicting enough for me to want to play essentially the same game again

Pokemon is very much a series that if you've played one, you know how you're going to feel about the rest. The basic gameplay is the same as it's always been, and if you didn't like it before, you're probably not going to like it now. Don't get me wrong, there are more than enough new things added and changed with each entry to keep people coming back (myself included), and I feel that the 3DS versions are the strongest the series has ever been (X and Y at least, haven't played OR or AS yet). But the core gameplay is still fundamentally the same, and some people are not going to be okay with that, and that's fine.
