I'm not keen on the Mega evolutions, I would love an Absol that permanatly looked like its Mega form, but the other 'evolutions' don't look different or unique enough for me u_u

Very pleased. This will be my first pokemon game I've played since pokemon blue well over a decade ago, so it will be nice to have some familiarity.

I'm just glad Mega Charizard didn't become a fire/dragon type, that's Reshiram's territory!

Shifting to more slight seriousness, I don't mind megalutions, but I don't plan on using them that much anyway. It seems kind of tedious to change a Pokemon into a mega form, sitting through that animation every time would get old really quickly.

Mega Blastoise reminds me of the Battletech Stone Rhino...
Ah. It's been tooo long since this 100-ton siege tool lumbered onto my screen. What was it? Ghost Bear's Legacy? [sigh]
Ghost Bear's Legacy indeed. When I saw the Stone Rhino at the end of the mechlab I wondered why I would use anything else.

Yeah, I'll probably end up using Fennekin, Torchic and Charmander. Screw type coverage, I'll make it rain fire in Kalos and burn it to a crisp, no one will be able to stop me!

Part of their solution to keeping the franchise fresh is giving charizard a third horn, blastoise one big ass gun instead of two smaller ones, and give venasaur a flower on its head. Wow.

It's been a while since I played Pokemon. I might as well give it a shot. Nostalgia is a *****...

Yes because it totally doesn't change up their abilities, stats, or even their types in a way that can drastically alter the strategy and outcome of a battle. All it does is make them look a little different.

The Mega versions of the Kanto starters join Mega Blaziken, Mega Absol, Mega Mawile, Mega Mewtwo, Mega Lucario and Mega Ampharos in the growing list of confirmed Mega Evoltions.
You forgot Kangaskhan.

Can we see the evolutions of the starters next please?

Seriously it's coming out in just over a month and it'd be real nice to see what they look like.
I second that emotion!

Damn you pokemon. I don't want to buy a 3DS just for X & Y.
Get a 3DS for Super Smash Brothers as well. That's what I plan on doing anyway.

What's with these watches? I feel this is more of an old Digimon idea than a Pokemon one.
This really does seem to reek "digimon ripoff" doesn't it? Not just the fact that they activate little digital devices with swooping and pseudo-kung-fu hand gestures causing their partners to evolve, but adding a random cool-sounding word in front of the actual name of the creature to show that they've been upgraded?

And the fourth and final evolution for these monsters is referred to as "Mega" level?

Come one. The differences between mega and non-mega are minimal at best. Wouldn't it be amazing if the original starters had a real, full-blown fourth evolution that we're only seeing for the first time? Kind of like how they added Pichu as the pre-evolution of Pikachu later in the series. I think that would garner much more attention than this.

So Mega Charizard gets Drought, meaning Sunny Day comes along when he transforms. Mega Venusaur gets Thick Fat, giving him half damage to Ice and Fire attacks that he receives, and Mega Blastoise gets a boost in Pulse attacks like Water Pulse. Isn't Mega Blastoise getting the shaft in the ability department, or can I just not think of that many pulse attacks? Design wise though, Mega Venusaur is probably the worst. And while Mega Charizard looks cool (despite not getting Dragon type in the process. Oh Gamefreak you are such teases), I do like Mega Blastoise's arm cannons.

The choice to pick comes down to Bulbasaur or Squirtle for me. I already decided to choose this gen's fire starter, so choosing Charmander isn't super ideal to me. But I already thought about getting GoGoat as my grass pokemon because...well, its GoGoat. I suppose that leaves Squirtle, but I don't know. I have a bit of love for both since Squirtle was my first ever choice when starting Pokemon Red (so much so that I used him and maybe Pikachu all the way to the Elite Four), but when I beat the game for real I used Bulbasaur (and an actual team, lol).

I might have to see an updated list on the amount of moves they can learn or something. Its been far too long since I trained a first gen pokemon that I don't know what they can do now. Overall though, I love this and can't wait to see more Mega Evolved Pokemon.

The Power Rangers poses for morphing their Pokemon made me crack up.

They can't be serious, can they?

Face it, if this was ANY OTHER SERIES, people would be taking the piss out of this until their bladder collapsed.
I was actually checking out the forum thread for this news post to do just that, so imagine my surprise when I found people actually liked the idea.

I mean, really, people, "Mega-evolutions"? They must be really stretching for ideas. I didn't think they could ever exhaust the supply of pokemon-ised household clutter (which, let's face it, seems to be the the source of inspiration for a lot of the latest pokemon designs).

Well those designs were lame. I was expecting something as dramatic as the first two evolutions instead it's just the previous evolutions with a few minor tweaks.

Didn't the old pokemon games have TMs and those weird jars for permanent changes? W.e I don't wanna touch anymore nerves.

All of the games have T.Ms and Medicines but those can only go so far before maxing out. Mega Evolution can temporarily surpass that cap as well as give a pokemon a different ability or type in the middle of battle.
