Okay, I love Pokemon.
I mean, I fucking LOVE Pokemon.
If heaven was real, it would be Pokemon.. and naked girls.

But with ANOTHER remake of an old Pokemon game, it's made me realise,
aren't all the games exactly the same?
you collect all the pokemon talking to people who hint at a legendary Pokemon at the end, with team rocket/galactus blocking a path until you defeat their boss, then you do the elite four, then fill your Pokedex, then...
then what?
I've had about 500 hours of play time on Pokemon red, but that was when I was a kid, and hadn't discovered wanking.
Now I think about it, WHY does everyone love Pokemon so much?
comment and let me know, and also if you're gonna be buying the new game
You're pretty much saying every game is like every game

It's fun! It's one of the best turn-based combat games out there!
This.
And that. There's not much of a story other then "Go from town to town beating the piss out of the other peoples Pokemon until yours are the strongest in the world! or until we make another 150 or so for you to do the same thing with." I lost count of how many there were after the second 150, so I'm going to assume around 500.

Now, I don't care one way or the other but it seems like Pokemon games are just like Final Fantasy... as in, they're just rehashing the same thing over and over and over and people keep buying it.
I would very much like to see this straw man backed up by some empirical evidence.

Of course they're all the same in the general concept and game play. What's different is he new moves and elements each game provides. You see, I love pokemon, but I am also a highly competitive player. I play the games for the sake of competition and love creating official tournament worthy teams. So sure, the overall plot is pretty standard and nothing special, but it's the competition that is the interesting part.

I used to love Pokemon. I mean really love it. Pokemon games were my life for a while and I didn't miss an episode of the television show. But I grew up and my love for Pokemon faded. It's not gone but it's hard;y a blip on the radar now. But that and that alone is the reason why I can never hate Pokemon. It was a part of my life, one of the *good* parts. So I don't mind seeing the umpteenth remake of the same game because I know that it will bring another kid the exact same happiness it brought me little over a decade ago. So I'ma say it loud and say it proud:
[HEADING=2]Gotta catch 'em all![/HEADING]

People love Pokemon because the games give you a tiny shot of LSD when you're not looking, it improves the experience and gets you hooked at the same time.
I will be getting SoulSilver, and the newest one probably as well. They'd better come up with some cooler Pokemon than Zoroark though, we have enough stupid Pokemon around as it is (I'm looking at you, Bidoof!).

That's exactly what I thought when I was a kid and everybody was playing Pokémon. I always preferred Digimon, better story. I was so lonely... *sobs*
You're not alone here, I always though Digimon were way cooler. Being able to talk rather then say their name to me was much better.

"Pikachu!" Says the pokemon "Hmmm, well it sounds like it's saying Pikachu, so we'll call it that." Proffessor Oak decided, wondering what he should name his newborn son. "I know, since he's human, I'll just call him human! That's a wonderful idea!"

Maybe a Pokémon-player is the larvaform of a WoW-nerd?

Okay, jokes aside, I'm not really sure why they are so addicting. If I did, I would make my own game based on that formula.

It has to be the Pokemon themselves right? Who wouldn't buy a game with something so awesome on the box?

And also the battling, that's much more fun than in most RPG's, especially in the newer generations where there's more complicated battle mechanics, only the newer or casual players need not use any of the complicated stuff. Heck I'd never have heard of EV training if I wasn't browsing for tips on the internet.

I admit that the newer games are getting a little... repetitive. Diamond and Pearl have the exact same story as Ruby and Sapphire, and Platinum and Emerald are just those with bonuses. But I play them because it's fun. Not for anything competitive, not to be the best, not because I think they're cool: Because it's FUN. And while the repetitiveness of the new games is annoying (let's hope the 5th generation doesn't continue this trend), it doesn't take away from how awesome and fun the game is.

Though when you look at the Pokemon themselves you get kinda sick. I mean, come ON Game Freak! Bidoof!?

Well think more like it's updated versions in different scenarios mebbe :p
But I can't really think of any changes they made to the series that wasn't either seemless or just plain improving. But the changes ARE there.
Still... I love MORE pokemon ^.^ And yeah I shall get the new re-releases.. .. .. sooooon

If this remake brings back the day and night cycle I will consider getting it. Gold and Silver were the best. Pokemon Trading Card game was good to.

It's like Star Wars. What seems childish and juvenile can have its wafer thin exterior peeled away to find a system clearly designed for adults.

If they made a 3-D one that played like the portable ones, I'd probably play one again, I did play Red and Blue back in the day. But I don't use my portables since I'm at home a lot and have consoles.

So not like stadium, but with the actual walking around and such, because the gamecube ones sucked.

Collecting things is fun. Leveling is fun. It's another thing that satisfies my A-type personality. Plus the turn based combat, which is surprisingly complex, actually makes me think before I attack.
