As I grew up and played through every generation, I definitely feel somewhat less connected to the newer pokemon they introduce each time. So it's awesome for me to be taken back to some pokemon I won't have seen for so many years.

I only played Blue. It was, I dunno, ok.

I was more into the anime. I stopped watching when the Johto season began. It was my form of protest at the influx of new Pokemon...and general decline in my enjoyment. By the end I was only watching for Team Rocket. Gotta respect a series that features frequently cross dressing villains.

I enjoy pokemon because it has a nice, balanced turn based structure which lasts many many hours. Simple to learn, stays simple.

When I started playing Pokemon, it was because I bought it from a garage sale, (Yellow & Gold) and I absolutely loved them. both games had been out for a couple years and none of my friends had really heard of it, because we weren't big gamers in first grade. I didn't have to deal with it being a fad until a bit later, when everyone had heard of it, and that didn't even last long until everyone started calling it "pok-gay-mon". I still love playing the games though, even if the anime is a bit off.

New versions have new features and what not. I for one will be purchasing Soul Silver. I've always preferred Silver to Gold for some reason...

That's exactly what I thought when I was a kid and everybody was playing Pokémon. I always preferred Digimon, better story. I was so lonely... *sobs*
ah, how i would have mocked you as a Child... wasn't until i was 15 and my brother bought me a digimon game for DS that i realised how awesome a game it actually is... i mean seriously, it was so damn kickass! (still, in this game it annoyed me that to get my digimon past level 43, i had to 'undigivolve' them to an earlier stage, so when i trained them up i could reach level 65... then have to do it a-frikking-gain...)

Still, i prefer Monster Rancher for PS1... thats a game i still play every so often now... sniff... its got so many scratches though from swapping the disk quickly in and out of the playstation with another disk (to be read and thus a monster obtained)... thats a game that made me cry though... my monster died of old aged, and its suprising how attached you can get to these things at the age of 7-12... And its re-play value is so amazing too. so annoyed that they didn't release PS2 versions outside of America >.<
Monster Rancher? *tear appears in eye*
You reminded me of the horrible pain of when my haired Swayzo died of old age. ;_;
Still, game of great epicness.

I've disliked all the Digimon games since the first Digimon World. Simply because none of them compare. Most of them became turn-based, Pokémon style, (which Pokémon simply does much better), but DW1.. Here we had a Digimon with tons of parameters that determined how he would digivolve, and the battles were real-time and only involved specific instructions if your Digimon was smart enough. He had his own AI, and overall it just really felt like your Digimon was your partner, rather than just your little animal soldier.

I haven't tried all the Digimon games, but I tried the later few PS1 games, as well as a DS game, and it was always a big disappointment. The only one that was pretty fun was a fighting game, the name of which I do not recall.

Anyway, on the subject of Pokémon, 2nd gen was the best in my opinion, because of the inclusion of two continents, so I'm pretty excited about these remakes, and have already preordered HeartGold.

Good series, good game formula and an honorable way for any young gamer to start out.

I have no problem with it, but sometimes it's time to know when it's ready to move on.
(Took me about 3 years)

Okay, I love Pokemon.
I mean, I fucking LOVE Pokemon.
If heaven was real, it would be Pokemon.. and naked girls.

But with ANOTHER remake of an old Pokemon game, it's made me realise,
aren't all the games exactly the same?
you collect all the pokemon talking to people who hint at a legendary Pokemon at the end, with team rocket/galactus blocking a path until you defeat their boss, then you do the elite four, then fill your Pokedex, then...
then what?
I've had about 500 hours of play time on Pokemon red, but that was when I was a kid, and hadn't discovered wanking.
Now I think about it, WHY does everyone love Pokemon so much?
comment and let me know, and also if you're gonna be buying the new game
I've been saying that for years, but I have to say Silver and gold for me were different. The story was good, the way it tied in with red and blue, and i could handle the new pokemon there. Now' it's just gotten out of hand with 400 + pokemon...

Guess by the time Poke-virus arrived to our world i was already too old to get infected. Frankly i dont understand whats so special about it, bunch of random overly cute monsters forced to fight against eachother and being carried around by seemingly stupid teenagers .. that was my impression from briefly watching the tv series.

Then came the games, i tried them, gave them a chance but wasnt amazed, it was same thing i saw back in early final fantasy series but had those annoying Pokemons around to boot. Might be me not being that excited about the whole jRPG idea, or just the fact that Pokemon from my point of view has no story what so ever, no reason to collect those pokemons, why cant my character just say "Ah sod it, im gonna be a corporate evil overlord instead and milk cash form all those poke-trainers!" <.<

The more the 'virus' spread the more obvious it was that its just franchise that has no point of existance rather than sell more of gadgets tied to it, tv series, video games, plushies, card games, toys, costumes, pillows and whatnot, then expansion more expansion, mor epokemons to collect, endless supply of cash flow. Smart but still shallow and pointless from my grumpy-butts perspective.

But yeah, i was like 17 or so when it all started so it didnt had any appeal to me to start with.

I won't be buying it, I've not owned one since gold (having briefly played on a friend loaned me). If they redo the combat so it's real time, add in animations for the turn based combat (I'm sick of the basic ones we have, I want motion unique to each pokemon dammit, they could make it pretty if they wanted) and probably new features (not new pokemon, new features like gameplay elements, for example the breeding was a good addition to gold/silver from red/blue/yellow).

Its a love hate for me, I want them to make some new game type, maybe a massive MMO (I won't go into it as its been wished for by everyone all the time)

But I love the games so much, I love the format, I'm hooked on it I guess. I've said before I'm not gonna get SoulSilver, but after a hugh nostalgia trip, and the fact that Silver was my favourite Pokemon game, I'm gonna get it.
