Please excuse me if I sound like an old man in this post.
I have never really been into hand held gaming, at least for the past decade, but I felt like I should get back into it so a few weeks ago I bought a Nintendo DSi and I have been having fun with it. I have been thinking about getting Pokemon Diamond and Pearl however I think that I have missed out for ten years on additions of new monsters, trainers, or even characters that you play as. So I ask you readers of this thread have I missed out on too much or can I still jump on the band wagon and get the idea.

I've heard tell that the newer versions of the game have better gameplay/move balance, but I can't stand the new Pokemon. It seems they're running out of ideas.

I personally play LeafGreen on my SP, but if you haven't ever played the game then you should jump into the new gameplay tweaks so you don't have to change constantly.

So yes, get HeartGold or SoulSilver (remakes of the best generation of Pokemans).

Dude, do it. Pokemon is a great game series that you can get into at any point, but definetly get SoulSilver/HeartGold. Don't take my word for it just because my avatar is a Pokemon.

I think you should go back and play the old games first. You have in fact missed out on quite a bit, but I don't think it will ruin your experience if you choose to skip straight to diamond and pearl. I just think the gameboy games like Silver and Blue and Emerald are the most fun.

Jump on when Black and White comes out. I really want Pokemon White so i can get a Zekrom! It's an Electric/Dragon, how awesome is that?

Heh. Don't worry the game is the same as ever. Mechanics change, but the exact core of the game will still be exactly the same as 10 years ago.

no, u can just jump. I never tried hs/ss, but i think u should get that instead. Gold and silver were, in my opinion, the best games. Heart gold and Soul silver are remakes.

Not to hate(I own every pokemon game since red/blue) but could we stop with the nostalgia goggles and give me a reason why you actually prefer older versions? is it because you can't run and have to wait 7 hours for a move to be executed in terrible graphics? or do you just enjoy retarded looking charizards to much >.>

I'm just saying, these games get upgraded for 2 reasons;

To make money and
To better the experience you get from it.

I'm not saying you're opinion is wrong, I'm just tired of all the people saying 'oh older one was better cuz they were'(yes we get it you were there from the start like 6 billion other people where give it a rest already)

Again don't take it the wrong way just stating my opinion here

I was thinking about that. Are those just a copy of the original silver and gold or are there extra bits added in?

They increased difficulty in the game(especially after you defeat the elite four), added the option to globaly trade and battle via wi-fi, you can get the latest pokemons after you beat the main game(not all of em tho), altough they did remove the slot machines in the game corner since Diamond and Pearl :p, and moar it's worth the purchase imo.

nostalgia is a funny thing. And dude in the eyes of anyone who has played the original Red/Blue they will always be the best

Get Soulsilver/Heartgold instead.

Gold/Silver/Crystal were second generation, and the remakes help ease you into all the new stuff.

Plus after beating the Elite 4 you can go strolling through the original landmass of Red/Blue/Yellow and fight leaders and trainers there.

So yeah, get Heartgold/Soulsilver instead. They're better.

I'm in the same boat as you OT. The last pokemon game I played was gold, and even then I was a little turned off by the new editions.

I find it sad that I'm only 18 yet this franchise has evolved to the point where I would feel old if I tried to get back into it.

I like old retarded looking Charizards.I like the old Pokemon, all of the ones after generation three just seem so lame and not as well thought out.
