Police "reality" shows

So I noticed some other things were slowly being replaced by shows like "Operation Repo", "Grimefighters", and "Traffic Cops", and I wondered if anyone actually watches these things. They seem incredibly stupid to me, even compared to the shows they replace.
Someone mind explaining why some think this is a good format?

I once found myself sitting through an entire episode of a reality tv show about customs at an Australian airport. It was mostly Asian people getting caught with food they weren't allowed to bring into the country. I don't intentionally sit down to watch terrible reality tv but sometimes I get sucked in...

I don't know why it works, it just does...
