Yes. It sucks ass and shouldn't be that way, but you have to deal with reality as it is if you want to change it
Problem is cops know their apologists say, "Comply and you won't die, it's easy." So they make compliance as difficult as possible by screaming contradictory orders at you.

Not saying they don't and not saying it's easy. The fact that a random citizen needs perfect zen calm when dealing with panicky cops is terrible and shouldn't be the case

Nope. That sounds like the police are declaring war on citizens. If anything this proves that cops are not to be trusted and honestly the best way to assure your safety is, if a cop approaches you, kill him before he kills you.

That is a bad way to survive a cop encounter, mostly because it summons more and better armed cops

No no, the shot SHOULDN'T have been fired. But we shouldn't just pretend he didn't resist arrest several times and that such behavior is not prudent and should be discouraged.
It doesn't matter if he resisted arrest, it doesn't matter if he threw a baby into a woodchipper, it doesn't matter if he tried to escape on a unicycle while juggling puppies. None of it matters one iota. He was murdered by a police officer.

In the late 70s, the New York Police Department banned shootinf suspects in the back. It dramatically reduced police killing civilians. It did NOT increase crime. In fact, it went down

yes, the full force of the state is indeed terrifying to an individual.

Just checked. The punishment for resisting arrest isn't being executed in the street without a trial.
None of the tools police officers use to subdue suspects are legal punishments for some crimes. Police officers don't just shout "Stop or you'll go X days in jail! Stop I said, or it will be Y days! God damn it will you lay down or it will be Z weeks!!".

he man had been subdued.
Let me stop right there.
That's your assessment and based on the footage I have seen that is highly debatable. The suspect could be seen trying to hit or take the taser at some point and from other footage we can see the struggling continued and the officer continuously asked the (at that time) suspect to drop the taser. IF this is all Oscar award winning acting by the police officer I agree the gunshot was 200% uncalled for and resisting arrest is irrelevant to the shot.

However, and this is important, based on the footage I have seen it is obvious at some point the suspect resisted arrest and it would appear he still was at the moment of the shooting. In that case his resistance is clearly relevant. Now again, I believe it's bad (horrible) policing to allow a simple licence plate issue to escalate to a fatal shooting even if it involves a suspect resisting arrest but that doesn't take away resisting arrest and trying to take away a taser from a police officer is dangerous and wrong as well. Obviously the victim has already paid a price way too high for his mistakes, now it's a matter of the police officer to pay his price for his even bigger mistake (and hopefully one day sweeping reform to happen).

Everything before the "but" is just lip service. What comes after is what you really mean.

If you can't handle the idea someone can agree with you at 95% that's your problem. One day you will open your mind and a whole new world will open up to you.
Meanwhile you can stay in your circlejerk where everyone is bound to ideological purity.

No, I just have a fundamental disconnect with your logic. Resisting arrest does not merit a summary execution, no excuses.

How can you say that based on what I have said.
An execution is the word that would fit if the victim is subdued. If you believe the victim was and the police officer was playing comedy that's your prerogative. And if we get footage that shows just that i'll agree it is an execution, period. And than the prior resistance to arrest would be totally irrelevant.

However as the footage I have seen suggests the struggle was still going on I do believe it contributed to the needless escalation of this routine situation. Now "contributing" doesn't mean "justifying". And I have been abundantly clear that the situation shouldn't have escalated to that point and that this escalation is just a great example of bad policing. But, resisting arrest contributes to the escalation just like it contributes to escalations of violence during arrests all over the world. It's a bad idea anywhere around the world. And just like police officers need to stop using their guns like that and need to stop acting like everyone they interact with is Schrodinger's "Cop Killer" people should not resist arrest either. But again, me saying resisting arrest is bad and contributes to needless escalation doesn't mean that the victim deserved this and that the cop handled this correctly. Both were wrong and by virtue of the police officer being the one who used lethal force for a situation which didn't warrant it he has shown to be the one who is the most wrong and he deserves to face justice. And I hope people get three thrings from this event: 1) The police needs to be reformed and their training needs to be focused a whole lot more on de-escalation rather than needless escalation 2) Police officers need to be held accountable for their excessive use of force to ensure they'll think twice before using it 3) Resisting arrest contributes to the escalation of force which will be used so if you want to survive a police encounter in a country which has an issue with killer cops do not resist arrest.

If your choices are let a suspected traffic violation flee or murder him in the street you let him flee and put out a warrant for his arrest. But the cop didn't want to do that because at this point cops, particularly US cops, are not protectors, they're enemy combatants who will put you fucking down at the slightest provocation.

Then what are we supposed to do when cops start issuing contradictory orders in full knowledge that we won't be able to comply? Because that's what they do. Gives them an excuse to say you were resisting arrest and then they can go ahead and execute you. And yes, this was an execution. I don't give a shit if dude was resisting, the pig shot him in the back of the head at point blank range.

I agree, this situation should have never led to a shooting and allowing the suspected to flee was the better option.

This guy easily got anyway from the cop. 3 seperate times. He easily pushed the taser away. He very easily could have beaten up the cop. He didn't. He ran away because he's freaking out. Maybe dont come up behind the suspect and suprise him with an arrest and then he won't freak out.

It's a traffic violation. You have his car, license, registration and friend. What's he going to do?

Yeah like if its a not merely a civil offence, its at a most minor criminal one. Either post them a fine or wait until dinner and then go knock on his front door politely and explain he has to answer for the offence.
