If any of you remember the previous name of this game:

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/115831-Police-Warfare-Fans-Pitch-Next-Call-of-Duty-Sequel

Well yeah, now it has a kickstarter and has gotten rid of Call of Duty from the title:

It looks interesting to say the least.

So the dev cream of yawn games is coming together to make another one, well I'm certainly excited...
They have a fairly low goal so they might just make it, but amongst all the near same games out already this really isn't standing out.

Fucking everythings getting a kickstarter these days.

Theres some good games that have used the kickstarters...but it seems people are starting to consider it an easy way to make whatever they want, and then sell it make loads of money and give a few percent to charity.

Your saying that like it is a bad thing, the reality is that most publishers only go with the safe bet these days so original Ip's or spin offs that aren't guaranteed millions of sales are left unfunded.

Although on the flip side I do say that kickstarter saturation is getting a little ridiculous, I haven't had the cash to fund one of these things since the double fine adventure game, and I feel kinda sad that I can't fund some of these projects because they're just coming in one after another without any concern to the financial situation of most people out there.

The videogame industry was always like that, at least after they advanced beyond the basement programming stage. Its not a recent thing for new IP's to be shot down at the pitch....but the good games we have now that arent Indie got through that pitching stage.

Soon we will see people using kickstarters to make pong and tetris clones....

It does seem uncannily like Activision's spin on Payday: The Heist. I am all about cops and robbers, sign me up.

And to the inevitable tidal wave of bitching about high-profile game studios getting donations from Kickstarter to make games you don't care about... Be silent. The fans pay what they want. The publisher gets their money. The developers get paid. Charity is raised. Everybody is happy. Just shut up and for once put your jaded, cynical opinions back in the suitcase.

And it's far better than going to as many private investors you can find and being told to change aspects of your game to make it suitable for selling to the majority market. Kickstarter allows devs to make the game they had in mind without buckling to the requests of publishers and investors.

OT: Sounds fucking awesome. We might see a brilliant FPS with a new angle to it not being destroyed by the need to pander to every gamer under the sun. From the sounds of it the game is going to be great fun.

Im still waiting for a Kickstarter from the guys that made Timesplitters (and that worked on Battlefront 3), even if it isnt a new TS or a BF due to licenses I dont care, just let them do something new instead of making them work monkeys (multiplayer of Crysis 2)

One thing to point out:

Pledge $100 or more

ALL PREVIOUS REWARDS + Get the special unlockable secret class for both SWAT and Robber teams including exclusive weapon kits. This special class and exclusive weapon kit will NEVER be available to the public or anybody else, it's a Kickstarter EXCLUSIVE.
I see this as a big no-no. But for everything else, sounds cool.

Implying kickstarter hasn't already been used to fund clone games before:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/564944684/pixel-sand?ref=category
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/630555339/guncraft-voxel-based-first-person-shooter?ref=category

People should show some moderation and shouldn't fund a kickstarter game just because it is on kickstarter, but that also shouldn't discourage other developers from trying to get their game created through the only avenue left open for them because a big publisher decided that the only successful game is one that sells in the millions.

There's something of a diminishing return to Kickstarters, you know..Why don' they all wait for a few months? I think people are getting "spent out".

Yeah it is getting a bit overused. Though this does look interesting since y'know, it dropped the CoD mark. I hope it goes more of the simulation route like SWAT or something, instead of just being a Call of Duty clone.
