Okay, I have a question for all you Escapists: Is it polite to leave a co-op game in the middle of it, with no explanation?
Let me elaborate. Today, I was playing NAzi Zombies on my xbox, and my brother came in and asked to play. I said sure, after the game is over. He said that it doesn't matter if I just get off, because I don't know these people. I have a problem with this for one reason: it's a cooperative game. The other players depend on me to survive and just dropping out with no explanation is (I think) very impolite. Consider if it were a sport: if I just walked off the field during a baseball game, the other players would think that I'm an asshole. It's a very similar situation.
I want to hear what you all think about this. Is it impolite, or does my brother have a point, and it doesn't matter because I don't know them?

There are more important things than gaming for example, eating or going out. Leaving in the middle of a game seems fair. But if that person leaves because they are losing. Thats just plain annoying

I do consider it impolite to leave in the middle of a game without an explanation. If, however, the person explains himself later or pardons himself before going, I have absolutely no problem with it.

I think if you have a reason, then yes, its fine to leave. But Ive always hated people who just flat out leave without saying a word. I agree, i think its not polite.

It doesn't really matter too much in the grand scheme of things, but an explaination is always nice and polite.

Well in a game type like Nazi Zombies if somebody leaves its basically assured that the whole team is officially boned. Having a good reason just keeps the pitchforks and torches at bay.

Of course there is more important things but you should at least say that you are going to give some warning the computer AI can mess up a good game especially one like survival on L4D with Bill taking over and blowing himself up with 1:00 to go untill gold.

Sometimes real life stuff happens and you have to drop, it happens. Your brother's explanation is OK, I guess. Not real considerate even if You don't know them. But just think the next time you're looking for group, someone may be lees likely to pick you up because of past occurrances of dropping mid game. So come/go as you please, but realize there may be a cost to doing business. All in all it's only a game. Do what you want.

I guess leaving in the middle of a game with no explanation isn't the worst thing you could ever do but, it does get on my nerves when people do it to me. Generally it is common courtesy to say something before leaving a game.

That's my point. If I leave, the team is screwed. The least I can do is give some explanation for it.

Depends why you are leaving, if you just don't want to play at least tell them you are going to go. Just droping out because your brother wants to hop on is being a jerk, but not a big jerk.

In the end its up to you if you are polite or not, do you care and what is more important.

oh yeah cause leaving some co-op is serious business.

who cares.
This attitude is one that should banish from the face of the earth "it's not really that serious so who cares".
