In the course of my years on this planet I thought I had heard and seen how deep people can dive into the stupidity pool but today someone dived into that pool so well they were automatically given gold in the next 20 olympics....

I was talking to some friends (and friends of friends) today when the subject of music came up, one of them mentioned "black" music and I said that I hated "black" music, imagine my surprise when that person with all the seriousness and sincerity they could muster called me a RACIST!!!, since when does musical taste count as racism, I don't hate the music because it is made/sung by any particular race I just hate the music as I find it all to be the same cloned rubbish.

Hmmmm never had that happen to me because I love "Black music". I assume he means rap. Right..
Anyways who said Black music to begin with? I would of just counter'd with "why does it have to be black music? Have you heard Eminems old stuff? Relapse? The guy was off his fucking rocker, thats worse than Lil waynes shit by far. I mean yea he is fine now but he is the one of the kings of rap and he is white you idiot." (Well I think he is because of his come back but what ever)

Are you talking about music that originated mostly from black people in America? Sure that exists, but no musical genre belongs to any one race. How about the blues? Rock 'n roll also has origins in what I guess you'd call black culture for want of a better phrase. There is no genre called 'black music' and saying it makes you sound like you just hate all music made by black people without exception.
Also don't say 'political correctness gone mad' because it makes me violently angry. I'll let you off this time, but seriously. Just don't.

It's probably because "black" is not a music genre.
Funny, I made the assumption 'black metal', which makes the story even more confusing.

Misunderstanding.

Black music - Music made by black people
Black metal - Hardcore gothy stuff

He follows that you dislike music on the idea that it's made by a black guy. Which is racist.

Actually your not the only one. The first thought that went through my head was Black metal and took half a second to click into place.

Wait, you mean Political Correctness wasn't mad before? Also, yes it was stupid to jump to that conclusion of your answer. Hell, I don't like most Rap either since it seems that the majority of it is on the subject of:

1. I have more wealth than the listener
2. Killing people
3. Treating women like possessions

Or at least it seems that way with a good majority of Rap music. I don't dislike all Rap music however, some I consider quite good with an actual message to convey even.

[small]All statements in this post are just my opinion, please take it or leave it as you will. Also, nothing offensive is meant towards anyone who does enjoy listening to Rap for the reasons I listed above.[/small]

What do you mean "Relapse" is "old stuff"?
Isn't that from like '06? (**No, it was 09 even)

Anyway, as enzilewulf here says, what on earth is "Black music" that term is racist I'd say, just like calling any type of music "white music" would also be racist.

I'm generally against any kind of politically correctness and censorship, but referring to specific kinds of music as "black" or "white" is racist I think.

Stop being politically correct! Help! I'm being persecuted!

But seriously, this is pretty silly. I don't know how else to put it.

Since the label given was black music then yes it seems like what is being inferred is that all music listened to by black people. Not racist but it sounds very odd if you where to say, "I hate all that black music". The way that sentence is said it sounds like you are being racist.

It is rather odd for the person that said black music would get offended by how it was used. I have friends that would do something like that. Look completely serious but be joking the whole time.

I wouldn't call it racist (quite), but I can't believe you can't see why they called you up on that - I would have.

And before everyone starts blowing their load for the day, political correctness is what stops people calling blacks "niggers" and throwing about all the Jew stereotypes and whatever else.

What I mean is Relapse was his last album that he did when he was on drugs, and it was bat shit insane. Went from forced incest to home abortions to rape. Then came Recovery. Where he said Relapse was shit. Its when he left Slim Shady behind and stuck to Eminem. So basically when he kicked the drugs it was his old stuff.

To explain, the term "black music" is a term I have seen used quite often to describe Rap, R&b, etc, etc to describe music in which the performers/ audience are made up of predominantly black people, I suppose you could call Metal " white music" because of the predominantly white background of it, I know it is stupid to describe music in such a way but who said everything people say has to be smart.

Saying you don't like black music IS racist, because you don't like music made by black people.

Saying you don't like rap ISN'T racist, because it's a genre of music.

Big difference. You might not have meant it in a racist way, but that's the way it would be interpreted.

There might be a group of black people that I dislike, which isn't racist. But if I were to yell "I hate black people!" everyone would assume I was racist, even if I was referring to just that group.

I have no idea what kind of music you like, but that's music made by black people, and it isn't rap.

thats immensely stupid. id say your friends use of the term "black music" is more racist than you having a particular music taste
