I think Political correctness is a stupid idea. I mean there are certain things that are good,like I don't think anyone should say the N word. Also, we should call things by their proper names but we shouldn't be forced to say for instance visually challenged rather than blind. What are your thoughts and if you agree which PC terms annoy you the most?

Exactly I agree, although yes there are word I don't think someone should say I think freedom of speech makes it so we can't restrict it, but also threat should not be tolerated because that is not freedom of speech.

I use racist terms, derogatory terms and I use whatever other terms there are.

Please note that I do not use them with hate behind them. That would be the point at which I know I have gone too far.

I use racist derogatory terms all the time, though only in private in a joking manor with friends and not to offend anyone.

When used in an incorrect setting or spoken with hate, that is when freedom of speech has to be limited.

Moderate political correctness is having some common sense to use words and terms that have the least ammount of chance to offend somone. That being said I think in todays society we have gone off the deep end of political correctness and landed balls deep in mass stupidity.

I agree with this, someone can call someone a N word if they want and everyone else will be free to call them a racist asshole, screw political correctness just go by what you believe to be the right things to say.

Freedom of speech doesn't mean you can't be held responsible for things you've said. Its not that you said it that's illegal, its how the word is used and to whom. (For example calling someone a "dirty ******" as an insult, would be socially unacceptable )

Oh absolutely. I think what I am trying to say is that there is some level of personal responsibility. Now the question is should making racist comments be a crime worthy of going to jail?

Heh this reminds me of this stupid after school special type shows. You know the big gayass family ones where everyone learns a valuable lesson then the father molests the kids once the cameras are gone. (Okay so I just hate these types of shows)

Basically this little white kid was friends with a black kid. Went over to his house after school and the black kid and his family were saying things like "whats up my ******" and "up yours negro" in a jovial way. Next day at school the kid greets his friend like that then basically the entire episode was of the black kid and his family all ostracising the poor little white bastard and just treat him like trash. Not up until the very end did anyone explain to the kid that he is not allowed to say these things even though they can then he has to apologise even though he insulted them out of ignorance, they treated him badly because they are assholes. They did not even explain why.
So basically the whole moral you were meant to learn was a complete failure.
I was going to make a thread about this sort of thing (When after school specials fail) weeks ago when I saw it but well... I am very very lazy.

Now that show was racist.

No matter what the word is, if only one race can use it that is racism.

I had to get it in before someone else did. And PC is good, but only up to a point, and I think it's exceeded that point. Its good that people aren't allowed to use derogatory language in work or public, such as the N word, becuase that's unplesant. It's bad to have to use the phrase 'visually challenged' instead of 'blind' because they mean the same thing and neither is derogatory language, so there's no need for change.

Political Correctness is not a limitation on free speech in anyway. It is just a means of determining what can be constituted as offensive. No-one enforces political correctness apart from the public; which is the exact same as before. I doubt that anyone has ever been subject to racial slurs due to the enforcement of political correctness. If being political correct exposes bigots, racists, and hate mongers accountable to their rhetoric I'm willing to be slightly choosy with my own language.

Being "politically correct" is just the means to the end: causing the least offense to anyone. I'm all for political correctness.

You know what annoys me? People who ***** about political correctness, seriously it comes up so much more than any real incident of "political correctness gone mad". It seems people just want a chance to complain about some thing they don't like no matter how much they really know about the subject or why these things happen so this gives them a convent little shield to hide their argument behind. Also what the hell is political correctness when you get down to it? It is just a couple of buzz words that seem to get slapped onto any thing some one does not like. Seriously the term is given such varied use it has no real meaning.

Also you know what manners are needed at times and if you can't realise it maybe you need to grow up. Before any one starts crying about freedom of speech, first there are plenty of places where you don't and just because you are free to say what you want does not mean you should be free from the consequences.

Political correctness is fine to a certain extent; I think you should try not to offend people wherever possible. It's just the current situation where you have tot be 100% politically correct all the time, and aren't allowed to do anything that carries even the slightest possibility of offending someone that annoys me. However, this only applies to certain groups of people.

Allow me to elaborate. I once heard that a company posted an advert in a local paper asking specifically for black people to apply. Nobody cared. If the same thing had happened asking specifically for white people, there would have been a phenemonal public outcry, going on and on about how the comany was racist. The thing is, asking specifically for black people wasn't any less racist, but nobody reacted anyway.

Likewise, people of ethnic minorities can get away with insulting Caucasians, but if the reverse were to happen, the Caucasian in question would be condemned as a racist. Black people are allowed to call each other the N Word, but if a white person were to do the same they would be (justifiably) furious.

Don't get me wrong; I am in no way a racist. I think racism is disgusting and nobody should be able to get away with it. The point I'm trying to make is that if you're going to say racism is bad, which it is, it should work both ways. Unfortunately, it doesn't, which has led me to develop my First Law of Political Correctness.

You can be as racist as you like, as long as you're not white.
