Looks like the EU just passed the controversial Article that could inadvertently ban memes. Any Europeans on here who are panicking at the situation? I always thought that only murica was anal about protecting copyrighted material.

One really crappy part that a lot of people don't realize is that this isn't just going to affect the EU. A lot of the major players are just going to apply these new rules universally rather than try to chop up their services.

I wonder if pro-Brexit people will point to this and say it's either memes or no memes
Neither pro, nor against Brexit people in the english parliament could decide which of 8 variants of leaving(or not) they preffer, so this might take time.

OT: Correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't this also need to be approved by the EUC? And 4 votes would be enough to reject it there? That plus lots of MEPs backpedalling and claiming now that they "accidentaly pushed wrong button"(!), make me hope that worst case scenario, the article won't last long in current shape.

Cool, the op title got edited with [POLITICS]. I guess they want people to announce that their threads are political in nature.

If only we had a separate section of the forum for discussion of potentially contentious topics such as politics or religion. Then we wouldn't need add the tag to the title and the people who would be dissuaded from viewing a thread based on the presence of said tag simply wouldn't go to that section of the forums. I don't really know anything about coding though so maybe creating such a place just isn't technically feasible.

It's a visual sign for people who may not be interested in discussions like this. If you have a good argument as to why that might be detrimental, then please present it.
It's fine by me.

At least they made fair use (Including parody, including memes, and criticism) laws mandatory at the same time.

I think it's fine too.

In fact, if you want to have this as a proper implementation in the Forums V2, ie: having the ability to flair or tag certain threads (a la: reddit), I think that would actually be pretty cool.

I know you're being snarky, but its hard to disagree with it. I mean Mods now have to tag Off Topic threads as Political, because the Politics Forums got Deep6. Isn't that more than a little ironic?
People want to talk politics. Well lets just shut down the politics forum, and given them the general. And to make things safe for general users, we'll mark every political thread.
Actually, come to think of it, it may be a good idea to have a politics only forum. And while we're at it, maybe throw in another controversial topic, say...religion, in too, but have harsher rules rather than no Sub at all. That way mods can either specialize in one specific forum or be aware of different rules for different forums, which would allow for heated debates in one heated topic, while in a different sub forum, allow friendlier debates on a separate, less heated, topic. That way users could blow off steam about passionate topics, within the guidelines of course, we'd never want a rules free zone, that's be fucking stupid from the get go, and then they could re-center themselves and come together that yeah EA is kinda shit, I like booze on the occasion, and really Marvel is pretty fun regardless of politics, which we've safely and conveniently walled off in another section.

But come on, that's like...way too much work to envision such a concept, and there's no way this site was exactly like that say...18 hours ago. That'd be silly. It'd be silly It'd be silly.

We tried that. it was just a bunch of edgelords raging against me, and then getting banned. It didn't work, and if you'd have asked me I would have(and did!) tell you it was doomed from the start.

It was one guy who everyone agreed was stupid. You're very melodramatic.

America = What is a European Union?

Europe = Wait what?. Hang on America I will send you a link about our history ...

Europe = Sorry can't do that, it's too expensive. Tired to get a photo of my flag , well that was too expensive.So I just wrote a paragraph of what I know about myself.

America= Hummm

America = ... No citation then? huh.

Europe = ...

America = I knew it, Europe doesn't exist. Fake News.

Russia = That is what we tried to tell you.

America has its quirks and problems with the copyright system. Yet, Article 11 and 13 are just like jumping the shark with rockets. I really hope something changes to fix what clearly is a bias articles against the spread knowledge and speech.

It is deeply disappointing,
let's see how it influences the upcoming elections. Maybe the Pirate party comes back.

As for Brexit. That has not yet happened and EU parlament Tories are among those who are at fault for this stupid new directive.
